Star Trek Memorabilia Auction - live online

Wasn't sure where to put this, since it incorporates several things, so feel free free to move it wherever, or just leave it here.

Is anyone watching the stream of this auction? Normally, I don't care about things like this, since it's just another thing for rich people to participate in, leaving the larger part of the world out in the cold without a chance in hell of enjoying anything...but being a Star Trek fan, I was curious about what kinds of stuff they were auctioning off.

Here's my question:

It sounds like the lady doing the auction is bidding on things herself, but I might be mistaken. Can auctioneers do that?

I think she's covering absentee bidders.

I can't believe the absolute crap some of these people are buying. I can see paying a bunch of money for Kirk's chair or something, but $4500 for a mess hall table from Enterprise?

The bidders are in costume too.

My girlfriend wanted me to attend this with her because she knows how much I love Trek (she doesn't, but is a Christie's regular). She even offered to buy me something via online bidding (man, I love this woman). I eventually chose to decline because I knew that anything I really wanted was going to go for some insane price and leave me feeling all empty inside.

I was in the same boat. The catalog for the event is $500 for the collector's edition or $90 for a standard edition. That's just the catalog of what's for sale!

So as much as I'd love a tribble or something important like that.. I decided to pass.

We need a geek sub-forum where people can discuss Trek, Buffy, sci-fi conventions, Rush, etc.

The Christie's website has the entire catalogue online, but their site is pretty terrible and incredibly slow.
