Ah, I can just see it. Sometime, 3,000 years from now, some kid will be complaining to me in my android body about how difficult it was to teleport to the Antares system for vacation, and I'll be all, "Bah! I remember when it was a big deal to only teleport macroscopic atomic objects a distance of half a meter! You little whippersnapper."

You can get around that if you use you deflector dish to fire a series of short tachyon bursts.

It is similar to how gravity waves are just theoretical at the moment, but there are tests that will happen over the next 15 years that will be able to show whether or not they go the way of the Tachyon.

I like the original "The Fly" better. Maybe the new transporters can be used that way for transplants!
