Relationship Question In Here...

Since I'm here I might as well as post this topic too. The otters here have a wealth of info and knowledge to share so what better place than here to ask the following question. Do you guys think it's crappy of a person to break up with someone b/c they have an STD? I'm not talking anything "deadly" like aids or what not (though I suppose that could be included here) but say herpes or crabs, gonohhorea (sp) etc. Somethign that may be life long but can be controlled with medicine. I wonder if most people are gonna say "Well if you love someone enuff, yeah, I'd stay". But would most people always think in the back of their head, "god, am I gonna catch it today or am I catching it now?" Discuss.......

It might depend on the STD....but yes, valid reason. I would have to have a REALLY SERIOUS relationship to even consider staying with them. 99% of a chance i'd be out the door.

If I gave it to her, I might consider staying. Otherwise, probably not.

Unless she were my 100%, no doubt about it, love of my life soulmate, there's almost no chance I'd stay. It has nothing to do with honesty. There are just too many fish in the sea to risk barnacles on my jimmy.

Now, if I gave it to her, it would still be over. Either she'd leave me, or I'd be forced to leave her, because I'm not staying with someone too dumb to dump a guy after he gives you an STD. Unless she's rich.

This is akin to Groucho Marx's famous quote about not wanting to be in any club that wants him as a member.

Sorry but I would have to leave the relationship if I found out my partner had a std.

I chose the "maybe..if they were up front" option. Never been in that situation though, so I might just end up running like a punk.

Crabs, I would leave even though it isn't serious. Just seems incredibly sleazy for someone to have crabs.

The rest, I would probably leave as well. My guess is that there are lots of people that don't know they have an STD and find out from some random doctors visit. Isn't there some kind of virus that is an STD that most everyone has? Pamploma or something or Hempavirus.

Been over a decade since I took Dirty 230 in college, though, so I don't know.

Yep. That's what I thought as well. I remember from a poster I saw back in the college health services that said 60% of America has some strand of HPV and most don't even know it. It was directed towards women with the risk of cervical cancer.

It is probably higher than 60%. I 'think' there is an HPV vaccine now...though IIRC it takes 3 shots and is rather pricey ($120ish per shot?). It is late, so don't hold me to that, but I thought I read an article on it (maybe here?).

*edit*

HERE is an article. Gardisil is the vaccine that was approved earlier this year. $360 for the shots....ouch. Source: Wikipedia Reference .

There's a pretty good chance I would drop the girl. Especially if she didn't tell me until after we were together.

depends on what std and if you cheated....I caught a case of the drippy dick one time while I was in a relationship..if I remember right I double dipped one night and didn't bother to shower off old snaggle tooth.....if it wasn't for the crabs that came along with the drippy dick I might have not said anything at all.....after a few days of scratching like a jack rabbit and the lovely yellow puss coming out of my sprocket I had to say something.

I ended up telling her the truth and she dumped me like a hot potatoe

I hope my story helps you in some way.

ps...cheating ='s gonohhorea and a 2 inch needle in ur flowbee

It helps to know that Dan Quayle got drippy dick. It could happen to any of us.

I think any reason is legitimate to break up, if you don't want to be in a relationship then get out of it. This would not be a reason I would use, though cheating probably would be.

My husband was diagnosed with HIV a few years into our marriage (from a blood transfusion), never entered my mind to leave. Most STDs listed are curable, exceot HPV which most people who have had more than one partner have, and herpes which is controllable with medication. I don't see either one as being that big a deal to a good relationship.

How the STD was acquired, and when the person told you about it would be the important factors, not the illness itself.

Yes and No.

AIDS? HIV? See ya later.

Herpes/HPV? Hm. I dunno. Did she get it before me, or while dating me is the question. If she got in WHILE dating me, and I dont have it, we have a problem. Otherwise, its a pain in the ass once every few months.

Everyting else : shouldn't be an issue with modern meds.
