Finally, a new job

I had an interview for a position at this company that I have been trying to get into for a year. Interview went ok and they called one of my references which was a good sign. Unfortunately, I knew I never got the position since they filled it last week. Not a big deal, I got over it.

Fast forward to today, the company called and offered me a different position that they felt I was more suitable for. I gladly accepted and go in tomorrow to sign the offer papers and go over some details.

I am pretty excited about this since it is a new start for me. I have been at my current company over 4 years and feel like I am in a dead end. Just listing the benefits off the top of my head that this new company offers over my current one

More money (~10k more)
Better Hours (M-F 9-5)
More Vacation (6 weeks vacation)
Excellent RRSP (401k) plan
Better health and dental benefits
Better job itself
Pay for education
Pay for gym membership
Get to travel throughout North America
Overtime is triple time
Get my own laptop
Work from home periodically

That's what I can think of off the top of my head and I am sure I will find out more tomorrow.

Just thought I would share the good news

A simple "I agree with Bandoman" would have sufficed.

Congrats! I know exactly how you feel. I'm starting my new job in less than 2 weeks after being with my current company for 10 years. It's a bit scary , but I think it will be worth it!!

Nice to go somewhere that actually makes you feel like you have a purpose ain't it!!!

No, he's just in Canada. America is so backwards when it comes to vacation time.

Thanks, not sure of the exact details surrounding the position but will know tomorrow. I orginally applied for a draft/wire specialist but they offered me a pre-pay specialist with the company.

The 6 weeks of vacation is nice. I am not sure how it breaks down but you get 3 weeks vacation, 6 floater days and 12 Earned Days off (edo) so 1 edo a month. You also receive paid sick time

The company is Exxon Mobil. From what I hear it sounds like a great company to work for. Any otters work(ed) for Exxon?

Good for you.

My father worked for Exxon in Baton Rouge for 35 years. He retired a few years ago. It is a great company to work for.

Stumbled on here while looking for another thread.

Just wanted to report that tomorrow I will have been there for 4 months and everything is going great. The company is awesome to work for and I already got a 6%+ raise effective January 1st, 2007.

The job itself isn't the most glamorous but I can honestly say that I like it. I have no problem getting up and going to work. I am sure this will change after awhile but so far so good.

I am taking on a new role next month that seems exciting. No extra pay but it will help me network with some managerial big wigs in the USA and they send me to Florida and Vegas twice a year
