holy crap - craigs list works damn well!

someone suggested that i put up an entertainment center i was trying to sell on craigs list. i never used it before but i decided to try it.

within an hour i got 3 email replies! this shit works.

anyways my question is how do i trust these people? some want to come over and see it first which is understandable but im a little wary of letting strangers come to my place.

its pretty much unavoidable (whereever i sell it people will want to see it first so it was expected) but my only concern is that people talk alot about scammers on craigs list. is it safe? has anyone else done stuff like this before?

I do both Craig's list and Freecycle all the time and have never had a problem. Just make sure that they know to bring cash only and never take a check or money order. If they push for either of those then cut them loose.

You still can increase the price. Tell the other three people you're sick and have a contagious disease.

Meaning don't let those people come over and change the price selling to someone else.

Don't worry when the person wants his employer in Nigeria to send you a cashier's check for more than the amount and needs you to refund the balance to the buyer. That's common practice.

one of them says they need me to send them $150 first, then they will come over and pay me back the $150 plus another $100. sounds pretty good. im going to send the money now before they decide to back out.

when people talk of scammers they don't mean people will come to your house and beat you up to take the entertainment center.

Just to be safe, move your entertainment center down to the street corner and tell 'em you'll meet them there.

I used CL to get rid of all of my furniture before my move.....never had a problem. I've also used FreeSource, FreeCycle, etc. The only 'problem' i ran into was a mom and a daughter who showed up to check out some couches. That was fine..the problem was MOVING them. I explicitly told them that I coudln't help them move, etc. They ended up coming back later in the week and my housemate got stuck helping them...it's ok though, i'm sure he owed me for something.

Before I moved to Atlanta, I sold lots of things through Craigslist. My car, stereo equipment, TV, bed, etc.

Chandler: BEND OVER?!!!

I've been using CL for years to move stuff.. Mainly concert tickets, but recently my g/f sold her place and we sold quite a bit of her furniture through there. Worked out good, as it was less stuff for us to move, and she made some extra cash in the process!

We just started using craigslist in the last year and it's worked really well. We've sold furniture, DVDs, and a bike. It worked very well for selling some OOP Disney DVDs. All the people who've bought from us have been OK.

use it all the time. if they are willing to come over to your place, then they are willing to buy it usually as long as the description is accurate. Anyone that I have met in person has bought whatever, and I have bought everything that I have checked out, except for one bike, which was a lot more beat up than the "practically new" ad.

You do realize that on craig's list, "entertainment center" is code for "hot unconditional sex" right?

I sold my bedroom set on craigslist last month to a middle aged ugly hag. She brought her 19 year old neighbor kid and his pickup to help move the shit.

They couldn't fit it all into one pickup load so the kid came back for the rest without the old hag. When he came back he told me that she had stolen a large plant out of a broken flowerpot in my Condo's commons area AND told him that I could use a nice older lady in my life. Ugh.

Code for "seeking nice older lady" on craig's list is "selling bedroom set."
