"Will no one buy my pretty balloons?"

Ok, this one is totally off the wall.

But it is one of my favorite cartoons - probably from the "New Yorker" or "Playboy" or something strange like that, but I don't really know.

Any way I can find it?

It's very simple.... it's a business man, sitting in an office, with a desk, and talking on the phone. He's holding a set of helium balloons, and the caption is very close to:

"Will no one buy my pretty balloons?"

I won't bother to explain why this is so funny/poignant/strange/interesting to me (at least not yet, I'll wait for the type of responses I tend to get here), but it is.

If anyone has any clue if this is on the internet - show me. Show me how good you are? I certainly can't find it.

And comments are welcome - I tend to draw such with strange requests like this.

I did some searching too and came up with nothing. If you knew which magazine it came from, there might be an anthology of cartoons, or a way to scan their archives. Meanwhile, I offer this crap.

Ok - not a bad start. Still no original cartoon, but I applaud the group's originality nonetheless!

Hmmm - New Yorker, Playboy, National Lampoon? Something where it would be one of those black and white cartoons in the bottom corner.

Will no one buy my pretty balloons?

It's a Ziggy!!

It appeared next to the cartoon of a pig at the complaint department.
Who says: "I wish I was taller"

In searching for the cartoon you (think you) saw at some undeterminable point in your life, I came across this picture that I remember seeing a few years ago. It busted me up then, and still does. Someone should sell these in Lebanon!

Guess I'll have to dig through my old Playboys looking for it.

What a pain...

Found it! From the New Yorker, March 22, 1972.

It's by Saul Steinberg, I believe.

Re: "Will no one buy my pretty balloons?"

(resurrection of the dead!)

Today, I was touched and intrigued by the following cartoon:

Spoke to me about as much as the one from this ancient thread.

Makes me wonder if Barsotti did the "pretty balloons" one.

And I think it was in Playboy. Maybe National Lampoon.

[Hi everyone! Long time no see!]

Oh - why the resurrection? When I went to do a google search, sure enough this ancient thread was right on top.

Re: "Will no one buy my pretty balloons?"

I was afraid someone was trying to buy the Playboy the comic was in.

Any chance it was a Drink-man comic? Well, it should be!

When a complete stranger posts in the forum only because of its strong Google-fu, it's weird and funny.

When an emeritus member posts in the forum only because of its strong Google-fu, it's sad.
