Are you the end of the line? (family name)

I just realized the other day that I might be the last chance for my family to continue our last name. Just found out our soon-to-be baby is going to be a girl. We might have one more chance for a boy. I don't really care much about seeing my last name stop with me, but it was pause for thought. All of my relatives with the same last name have had daughters as well.

End of the line with me.. Technically there is one other family in the US with the same name as they are distant cousins or something.

In our family, its down to my son and my nephew. I think we're going to have 1 more, so there might be 3, but right now just 2 left with our family name, anywhere.

My father has four brothers, three of whom have male children, and one sister who had a son that has our last name, so... no.

My father has 6 siblings, all of whom have had children, but I'm the only one who has produced male heirs. (Go me!)

My dad was the only boy of 4. He had 3 sons so things looked up. Since then I've had 2 girls and that's it. It is down to my younger brothers now.

I have two boys so my married name will live on. However, my father only had two daughters so his name won't be passed on but that's ok beings that we have a few relatives here and there (like the entire state of Utah).

Utah and the word few just doesn't go together when talking about family.

I am. And it is important to me since my last name is very unique. I have spoken to my fiance about it - she doesn't want more than two children. But I told her, if we have 2 girls, we might have to try for a third. If I have 3 girls, I'm giving up...

My father doesn't have any brothers and I am his oldest son. I have a daughter and my brother hasn't had any kids yet. The wife and I will probably try to have another kid in a couple of years. If it's not a boy - oh well. If my brother doesn't have any sons, then the family name will end w/ us. My paternal grandfather had a few brothers - I assume the name is living on through their family trees, but I'm not certain since we don't have anything to do w/ that side of the family. The name itself won't die off because my family tree was begun on this side of the pond 290 years ago.

I am also, and in a very similar situation. Have two girls already: a 4-year old and a 2-year old. My wife is due any day now with our third baby, and ...

IT'S A BOY!!!

Hopefully everything will be OK, and my son will carry on our family name.

As a side note, my Dad was the last in line before me (obviously) and he also had two girls before having me.

It's down to me and my brother... I don't plan on having kids anytime soon, and I hope he doesn't for an even longer time (he's a little messed up presently).

Both my mother's and father's names will end with me. My mom, on several occasions, has tried to convince me to change my name to hers so her name would live on in the unlikely event I have children.

I suppose I could hypen the two together, but that's all kinds of retarded.

It's moot anyway, since I have no plans on having children.

I've never heard of such a thing. Did your mother not take your father's name?

I'm the end of my line (starting from my grandparents, there are other relatives i dont know with my dad's last name). I have 2 daughters so unless my sister (or eventually one of my daughters) has a bastard; my name is gone. I did have a boy cousin with my last name but it got changed when he got adopted by his step father. my last name sucks so i dont really care.

There's still me, my brother, and my cousin (who's married). Also, my grandpa has a lot of family that I don't even know about, so I assume there are some other people out there carrying the torch.

There's my brother and I, so there's a chance with the line not ending and I believe my uncle has at least 1 son, so there's at least 3 boys with the chance of extending the line.
