Preserve autographs

Hey,

I recently met Dave Chappelle (nicest, low-key man ever, btw) and he signed my Chappelle's Show S2 for me. When I went through my old autographs from various people, when I got home, I noticed my Ivan Rodriguez (on a baseball) and Elvis Costello (on a ticket) were slowly fading. How should I preserve a ticket, a dvd case (boxset, not plastic) and a baseball. Thanks!

You'll need an acid free base and some sort of UV blocking plexi or glass over it - preferably enclosed.

Do not allow them to be exposed to direct lighting.

Take them to a picture framer or conservator to be encapsulated with UV protection.

Call around and ask about their experience with encapsulation first.

Some inks will fade anyway, even in the dark. It doesn't devalue the autograph if it fades because of the kind of ink used. A good conservator can take a look at them, and tell you what to expect.

Scan it. Print the copy. Seal the original and put it somewhere.
