The size of Earth

Also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_stars and the subsequent entry for VV Cephei.
- If VV Cephei replaced the Sun in our solar system, it would extend to the orbit of Saturn.
- The diameter of VV Cephei is about 124260 times larger than the diameter of Earth.
- Its surface area is about 194 trillion times greater than the surface area of the Earth
- It is 315,000 times brighter than the Sun

A former girlfriend asked me if she was fat. I said Uranus looks pretty small compared to Jupiter. This proves I was right all along.

So much for Mankind's superiority.

We're so small that Horton couldn't even hear us.

Hey, we may be small, but we have water, photosynthesis, life, and intelligent life. Take that, you "nothing" other planets.

When our sun goes nova and looks like those other stars, we're toast.

Charlie Goose Sad Fact: When I was a wee lad, I used to lay awake some nights worrying about the sun going supernova. Seriously.

Nifty! Can I buy these on eBay? I think Mars would be a pretty paperweight.

are any of these big stars still around since they are pretty far away and we are seeing them as they were a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away

Existence is a matter of perception. We see them, therefore they exist.

It's not big enough to go supernova. Just a piddling little nova is all it will manage. Just hope it isn't before the World Series. Unless the White Sox don't make it, then it doesn't matter.

I'm surprised that Mars is as small as it is. That should make the conquering even easier.
