Painting a frame??

I have one of those old beer/alcohol signs that has a black wood frame... It is actually like a printed mirror so I can't detach the frame... Anyway I need to paint the frame.. it is black, but is kind of worn and needs a fresh coat of paint. What the best way to do this? Obvisouly I need to cover the mirror to avoid painting it. Should I go with a can of spray paint or get some black wall paint?

I spray painted the frame for the mirror in our bathroom, and it turned out nicely.

SPray paint, after masking the mirror with, of course, masking tape.
