Do you work in an office? cubicle? tele-commute? Some small table in the middle of nowhere?

By the way if you work in a cubicle, please don't use the speakerphone a lot ok? The rest of the floor doesn't want to know about when the folks installing your new closet at home are going to be there.

Desk by the window in the corner of my home office. So I guess that means "office" in your poll?

I think we need to distinguish between home office and remote office since they are very different situations if you happen to poop your pants on the job.

I'm in the same situation. Even though I have a staff working for me and all that I think my cubicle will always be my home. The odd thing is that people who have the big offices around here are the ones that are almost never in the office.

Started with cubicle, moved up in the world to my own office and now I work 75% of the time from my home, 5% in my office, and 20% traveling out of town/country.

when i started at this company.. i was user support.. there was 3 of us.. and we had a building to ourselves... not seperate offices in the building, but there was so much space for the 3 of us, it didnt matter..
then we moved into a bigger building, when they consolidated all our buildings for that location into 1.. and for a couple months, they moved 3 of us into a huge cube built for a group of 5 or 6... but some people stole some equipment from our cube.. so they planned to move the 3 of us into a huge VP office (so there would be room for us 3, and 1 spare)..
one of the guys left the company as we were moving in.. so we had the vp office to the 2 of us.. a few months later, the other guy was laid off.. so I had that huge VP office all to myself for years... Then I switched jobs (same company) and wanted to move away from the masses.. So I picked a big office on the other end of the building and moved into it.. I was getting out of user support and becoming a systems engineer, so I didnt want the users to have direct access to me anymore..
I stayed in that office for a couple more years before they relocated us to huntsville.
Im in a cube here.. and its really the first time in my professional career (going on 8 years with this company, started right out of college) that Ive been in a cube.. This doesnt bother me either though.

I am in a cube right now, but have been told when they hire another tech support person, I get an office, and the new person will get my old cube.

I'm almost at one year in my cube, now they're putting in small D-shaped desks between cubicles to stuff more people in here. Should be shitty for who has to sit in those. Really don't like sitting next to so many people but i guess that's what headphones are for.

I have had a window office for the last 10 years. They have varied in size and location, the largest being 220 sq feet, the smallest being 160 sq ft. I think the one I am in now is about 180 sq ft.

It does seem like a status symbol, window vs no window, total square feet, corner or middle hallway, etc, etc. I just have to laugh at how "high school" people are with this shit.

One time there was a fairly major re-org and the entire group I was with at the time was forced to move to another floor where their was no time to do proper reconstrucion to get all the office setup the right way. The group manager was so tired of hearing everyone bitch and gripe about how they had been downsized in their office or they lost their window, blah, blah, blah that he was just numb to it. He gave the map to his deputy and said put everyone's name in an office as you see fit and if they don't like they can quit

I ended up with the 2nd largest window office on the floor because I was the only manager that said I didn't care where they put me as long as I could plug in my computer and my phone worked - I said I would sit in the hallway if that is all that was available.

Don't sweat the little shit - if you want a big corner window office - start your own company
