Got stuck in the middle seat. I HATE that!
I flew back home from meetings today and had booked a 4:00pm flight as our meeting were supposed to end about 1:30-2:00pm. Well we finished up around 11:30, so I figured I might as well try to get an earlier flight. Of course had to go stand by and the only thing they had available was the middle seat. So it was a tough call...roughly two hour earlier flight or keep my original with a nice isle seat(and possible upgrade to 1st class).
Well went for the earlier flight, middle seat, but what a pain. I think no plane should have a middle seat. Or at least you should get a discount for sitting there. I know part of it is me as I get a little claustrophobic, but still. Luckily I had Matrix II on my laptop so tried to just watch it....this lady next to the window got up once, but that wasn't really all that bad. Nice to stretch the legs.

At least the earlier flight you got on didn't get delayed to leave after your original flight. That's happened to me a couple times. That is even worse.

I thought this thread said you got STUCK IN THE MIDDLE EAST. Swear to god.

yep. there are absolutely no benefits to sitting in the middle seat except maybe when there's two smoking hot busty women on either side of you constantly leaning over and talking to each other.

How long was the flight? Anything under 3 hours and you're being a baby.
How tall are you? Anything under 6 foot and you're being a baby.
How much do you weigh? Anything under 220 and you're being a baby.

Funny, I had originally titled it "Stuck in the middle" and I thought people would think it was about relationships!

It was a little over two hour flight. So guess I'm a baby ;(
I'm right at 6'0", so what a what? A wash?
And unfortunately I'm over 220...tho starting to work on that part. So not a baby?
See my issue is simple. I travel a lot and don't mind the travel (don't get sick or anything). But I do get claustrophobic. Back "in the day" I would just get up and stand or hang out with the flight attendants during the entire flight. But with post 9/11 rules, they really frown about such a thing.

Yeah, cause skinny people can't hog the arm rests or take up room with their laptops.
I've been asking for the exit row or bulkhead row my last few flights, and have had pretty good luck with that. At least I get leg room, so even if I'm in the middle I can stretch out 'forward' a little bit.
Last time I flew I missed my first flight. I was able to get on a second flight. The second flight arrived at the layover place, before the original second leg took off. Tried to get on...they had taken me off. Because I had missed the first flight, they bumped me to a later second leg, so now instead of the ten minute layover I could have had, or the 1 hour layover I had originally, I had a 2+ hour layover when I didn't need it.
But yeah, middle seat does suck. Our company travel agency gives you a map of the plane when you book a flight and lets you pick your seat.

My last flight was similar to raven's. it was from Florida to CA, my buddie and I booked late, and he got a middle/exit row, and I got a middle regular row. The whole day before, he was teasing me how his seat was gonna be better. He got stuck between two guy, both about 6'5" and 250 lbs. I was stuck in the middle seat between one hottie, and one almost milf, but needless to say, I didnt mind.
We were all coming back from WMC (if you dont know, then oh well), so plenty to talk about, and one of my better flights too..

I'm a big gal ... big bones, big everything ... and I hate the middle seat. I always request an aisle seat. Like someone mentioned, the travel agency I book through allows me to choose my seats online for a trip, and unless the flight won't allow it, I do.
I have found that if I'm terminally gracious, it helps. If I get stuck with a middle seat, I ask the flight attendant to help me switch with someone. The few times I've had to I got lucky ... somebody flying with a kid was sitting near me and the kid switched. There's no reason for some 60-pound third-grader to have anything but a middle seat.

So he had to take what was available or decline and keep the original.
For me a 2hr flight in the middle to get back earlier is not really a problem
but not enjoyable.

Too bad most modern airliners MD-80's and such were designed in the early 70's when people were a little smaller than they are now. I'm 6'1 190lbs and it sucked so hard flying a few months a go. No leg room whatsoever. I did fly on a 757 though which had more room but it's a newer plane.

Oh yea, always get an isle. In fact if our company travel cannot book me an isle will will often change to a different flight. I typically have enough flexibility where I get the isle one way or another. Just this time trying to catch an early flight, no choice.
But I suppose I should stop being a cry baby. I could have been flying today which would have REALLY sucked.
