Ammonia Coke! Ever had it & Where to get it

I remember these things from when I was a child. The local drug store would sell fountain coke with a little bit of ammonia in it. I loved these damn things and I wish I could get it again but there is no way in hell I'm putting a household cleaner in with my coke, I'll leave that to the professionals.

Maybe they were trying to thin out the local population now that I think about it but I love them anyway and I'm still here. This place also sold raw ground beef sandwiches that I remember enjoying as well.

I have no clue about coke with ammonia, but in Sweden they sell throat lozenges that are Salmiak flavored. Salmiak = Sal Ammoniac, aka ammonium chloride.

Seems legit after a quick google search.

Some say it cures headaches, some say it gives an energy boost.

Like I'd make this up or my parents were trying to kill me as a child (since I'm sure they are trying to kill me as an adult).

It is not household ammonia that was used

http://www.medicineonline.com/drugin...atic_Systemic/

and

The beverage, consisting of ice, carbonated water, Coca-Cola syrup and three drops of aromatic ammonia spirits, was thought to be as effective and invigorating as smelling salts.

Of course, ammonia spirits are a far milder concoction than eye-stinging, lung-searing household ammonia. The medicinal spirits contain aqueous ammonia, alcohol and distilled water, with lavander, nutmeg and lemon oils. The flavor isn't bad
I have to wonder why this trend died off? Sounds like the olden days red bull

So these fabulous "Ammonia Cokes" were sold back in the day when smoking was thought to be healthy? And you still want one?

I'm only 27 so if by back in the day you mean 1986 then yes.

Plus, I'm pretty sure smoking is healthy for you.

Edit: I lived in Baltimore City at the time and the Store was on the corner of Baltimore St and N. Linwood Ave, right across the street from Patterson Park.
It may or may not still be there.

I ordered it and recieved it yesterday.

http://www.americarx.com/index.asp?P...rch=Cumberland

It sort of tastes like a rum and coke. It did make me feel more alert but that may be because I was expecting it to.

The next thing I'm going to try are Mint Eye Drops.
