Going To New York....By Myself......

Hey peeps, I'm gonna be using a free air voucher that expires in a couple of weeks and I find out that there's a limited # of places to go that I can use my voucher on. New York is apparently a very select few places I want to visit that's eligible and so it looks like I'm going there on the 12-14th of July. Mind you I'm off by myself so looking for suggestions on things to see besides the obvious...and do. Unless there's NY otters that want to be a gracious host and show me the wonders of the world..... I'm a guy, loves long walks on the beach....with chicks.....talking astronomy & discussing Nietze & I'm a Sag.....any biters.....I mean takers?....well I tried.

ooh great idea....also looking again, it looks like I could land in Westchester County?...not sure where the hell it is or if it's even close to New York but I could stay until Saturday instead of just friday if I land there instead of Laguardia. What do you people that know the area think? Just stick with Laguardia or is Westchester close enuff where it wouldn't matter? if someone could tell me ASAP that'd be great. thanks

Westchester County airport is maybe 35-40 min by car into Manhattan, depending on traffic. There's no transportation other than sedan service ($$$) that can take you into the city either.

I would stick with Laguardia if you can.

See the many other thread on NYC trips for stuff to do.

Oh, and by the way...no sudden stops when walking down the sidewalk to gawk at the tall buildings. We're walkin' here!

I'd be up for discussing his work if you could demonstrate that you even could spell his name -- Nietzsche

I'd recommend the Westchester option. Cheaper to stay up there, and LOTS of fun stuff to do! Much more than in Manhattan, which is way overrated. Besides, we have already filled our quota for tourons for the summer, so the borders are closing....

What does Hamptons have to do with it? Not everyone goes there.

My favorite time in the summer was deep summer in C.Prk ... it was empty
(or as empty as could be).

I thought you meant who leaves for the entire summer. Which would be rich people.

I don't like the beach, so I don't go anywhere.

Obscure reference, don't listen.

Check out the previous threads in this forum.

Also, tell us what you like -- Art, Broadway, sightseeing, bars, pubs, clubs, food, etc...

That's a pretty cool hotel, right up the street from me. The outside has kind of an alien look to it, and there is very cool pop art on each floor. And it's right next door to the Sex Museum.

Check out Madison Square Park, and drop by the Shake Shack at the corner of the park, by 23rd/Madison, for tasty treats. (Burgers, soft custard, beer, outdoor seating.) And there's a rare Manhattan 7-11 at 23rd and Park, if you get some cravings for non-NYC comfort.

I'm a westchester-ite, so if your a tourist and you want to see all the sites I would just fly into laguardia, or JFK. There are PLENTY Of ways to get into city from westchester, but it might just be easier for you. If in the city I would defintaley check as much as you can of the following:

Grand Central train station

jeckyl and hide restuarant,
http://www.ny.com/dining/jekyll.html

go see spamelot, or wicked go see an IMAX go to the MoMa or american museum of natural history or whatever on 5th avenue.
http://www.moma.org/
http://www.amnh.org/

GO to south street seaport, go to china town and get dim sum from something dragon restaurant for lunch
http://www.menupages.com/restaurantd...taurantid=2822

go to ferrarras for dessert
http://www.ferraracafe.com/aboutus/bakery_cafe.asp

go see the intrepid destroyer (?)
http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/intrep...e098ee374a5718

Check out all of the village and NYU area. Walk down broadway, and check out all the themed restaurants, there are endless amounts of activities but it cost a good amount of $$ to experience it all, whatever you do have fun and be safe, and welcome to NY

If you get a chance, go see Corteo (Cirque De Soliel) out on Randall's Island...It was absolutely amazing. I havent been to any other Cirque performances (eventhough it was a fixture in Orlando) and had the chance to check it out and it was great.
