Well I proposed my dissertation today...

and much to my dismay, they didn't tell me it was so oustanding that I could just skip the rest and get my doctorate immediately.

In all seriousness though, it went great and I am pumped to finally do some statistical analyses on my project...very soon I will be Dr. dave-o.

Just thought I would share with you guys, since I am obviuosly pretty excited about it.

What was your topic? I'm a tech person, who works with doctoral students pretty regularly. Most of the topics are so highly specific (arm movements in 6 month old Down Syndrome children), that I get sleepy just thinking about listening to it.

Thankfully, I'm just a tech guy, so I don't have to.

Yeah, that stuff is usually soporific. I hate talking about mine as it is of interest to me and maybe 4 other people in the world.

Congrats, dude.

You realize of course--if you do become Dr. Dave-o--that you're practically obligated by that name to start a radio show or something.

How did you guess my topic?

Thanks for the congrats everyone.

My official title is : THE FATHER-CHILD RELATIONSHIP AND ITS EFFECTS ON PSYCHOLOGICAL AND INTERPERSONAL WELL-BEING: A QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

Sounds like fun, eh?

To put it simply, I am studying college students and getting an indepth measurement of the quality of their childhood relationships with their fathers to determine if this relationship (or lack of) significantly impacts self-esteem, depression, capacity for intimacy and beliefs and expectations about intimate relationships.

I'd be happy to post all 151 pages of the Diss (so far) for you guys, but something tells me that I would have to spend some time bolding the important parts (which should narrow it down to about 65 page), so I think I will pass.

But, I will definitely let you guys know what I find if anyone is intersted.

I love touchy-feely topics. Mine was a mathematical mess involving statistical mechanics of microstructural evolution. I'm not sure I even know what it means anymore...

My (proposed) diss. topic is long and even I screw it up sometimes. How hetero and homosexual men differ in regard to body dysmorphic symptomotology and related issues, and their prevelance of developing an eating disorder.

Materials Engineering/Science. I was one of the few there who didn't heat 'em and beat 'em and take pretty pictures in the microscope all day...

(Although I did cause a pretty decent white phosphorous smoke-out of a lab room once. Just a tiny, tiny crack in the glass ampule!)

Is that about correlating male sexual preference with the tendency to ask: "Do I look fat in this?"

Congrats, dude.
I actually think your dissertation subject is fascinating.

(That's probably not much of a help, though...)

Agreed. As a big father's rights advocate, I would love to see your results.

Heh, lines got crossed. He meant my dissertation topic. It's political, you'd probably like that, too.

Mine is way too esoteric to discuss, so I'm not going to. Wendersfan and I had an off-forum discussion of it. More or less it is a unified theory of political attitude formation which takes two existing theories and bridges the gap between them.
