Do you keep your doors locked when you're in your house or apartment?

Another thread made me wonder about this. I'm totally paranoid and have my place locked down like a fortress all the time, especially since being broken into a few weeks ago -- I beefed up my front door and put extra locks, a bar lock, etc. on.

Do you leave your doors locked when you're home?

Ironically, I keep them locked when I'm home, but often unlocked if I'm making a quick trip to the store.

My neighborhood is quite safe. I've often accidentally left my garage or house door open all night and nothing is ever disturbed.

Depends on the time of day. In the morning/afternoon our front door is usually open and our screen door is latched. Me or one of my housemates always make sure everything's locked up at night.

Yes. You'd be shocked at how many home invasions occur due to unlocked doors when people are home.

I don't lock the doors when I am home. I keep hoping someone will break in, and I can make a new pet of them. But it never happens

Ok.. I answered this already... LOL. I lock up like a mad woman and my husband can't stand it. I keep this place like a fortress. We have this glass screen door that I lock on top of also keeping the front door locked. The back sliding glass door is also locked and kept closed with one of those wooden stick thingys. I figure, you can never be too safe.

A few years ago there were cases of people going to houses posing as solicitors and once the women opened the front doors they kicked them in and held them hostage and robbed them. I have 3 children to protect, and a nice plasma. Don't make me kick your ass!

We keep everything locked when we are at home. No point in NOT keeping it locked as far as we are concerned.

Always - I'm terrified Michael Moore might come by and ask me some questions.

I tend to lock the doors so the kids don't sneak out. At time I definitely lock the doors.

Yes. My doors are always locked unless I'm doing yardwork.

All of the time, with the deadbolt and one of those hotel style hook and latch locks.

Yep. I used to work for a cop shop, and the cops there said the same thing. It's not my stuff I worry about, it's the cases where rapists have gotten in through open doors or windows that I hear about on the news... there have been enough stories like that, I would NEVER take a chance, ESPECIALLY if home alone.

My grandparents lived in a good neighborhood, but over 40 years it became a not so good neighborhood. They didn't have A/C so in the summer they'd leave their windows open. One night she woke up to see a man standing over the bed about to rob them.

After that they locked the windows but they quickly moved to an air-conditioned condo in the new good part of town that didn't exist way back when.

No. Never do. My ex used ta lock it up all the time and I used ta hate it. I'd go out back to do some yardwork, walk around the front, and then couldn't get into my own house. Now it's unlocked most of the time.

I dunno...just don't buy into the whole culture of fear thing. And if they really wanna get in, they'll get in.

I lock 'em when I go to bed and when I leave for an extended period of time.

70/30 unlocked. I've gone to bed with the door unlocked, but NEVER do I leave home with the door unlocked (unless it's a trip to the laundry or mail room)

I tend to keep my door locked at all times. It's just a habit that I've always had.
