Does your job ever feel like high school?

Mine does. And I just realized another reason why.

The "supply guy" just came around and handing out the official newspaper/magazine of my company: the St****** Standard. At first, it annoyed me and I couldn't figure out why. Then I started looking through it and had flashbacks of high school and how moronic these things are.

Anyone else have experiences like this?

I used to work in the fasion industry. That was the worst. Our department had little creative teams that constantly fought against each other with all the backstabbing and stealing of ideas among them. I was a floating designer among them and it was a constant power struggle to monopolize my time. One manager yanked another one by the hair because she hid the periodical 'prada fax' lol. I ended up walking out of there without giving my 2 weeks notice

Oh, yeah.

If there's anything life has taught me, it's that people don't actually grow up anymore once they've hit High School. I graduated nearly six years ago, and I still see people hanging out in their little cliques and exhibiting favoritism and exclusion, which is really apparent if several people in a small group receive promotions. I admit, I've received better treatment because of it, but it's a bit embarrassing when I see other qualified people passed over for everything or just forgotten about if they're not into the same things as the boss...

all the time. I manage a department store and many of my employees are double my age but have the maturity and work ethic of an 8 yr old.

I'm a glorified babysitter.

It's really sad.

Yes, and I get tired of the constant "pep-rallys" we are all forced to take our teams to thinly disguised as Quarterly earnings/projections all-hands.....

Is there a work place out there with more than 100 employees that isn't like high school?

No one every 'grows up' they just get older. I work with an office full of immature whiney ass older kids. It amazes me how a 40 something or 50 something year old person with a masters degree can easily act like one of the little 5 yr old snotty brats you see on the nanny show.

I know the feeling. I deal with the exact same crap I dealt with in highschool. I figured someone who was in their 40's would act like a grown up, but I guess I was wrong.

Kinda odd how it seems like everyone has this problem. You'd think it would work itself out if EVERYONE felt this way.

Oh yeah, my vote is in there as well regarding work environment = high school.

Actually, yes. But then again I teach in a high school, so I guess it makes sense. Almost spooky even.

You suck.

I work with a few people my age and we make fun of people who are different than us, so pretty much like highschool. They pay is better, fortunately.

It's much worse than high school was. At least in high school people were more up-front about their intentions and what they were after. Now (as in the "business sector"), not only are people just as immature, they're also much more conniving, back-stabbing, underhanded, selfish and greedy than they ever were in high school...

Yes...and sometimes a middle school. I guess it makes sense though...since they are a middle school and a high school.
