Anyone sold a car to carmax?

We're picking up our new car on Saturday morning, but have not yet decided what we're doing with the old car. Has anyone sold a car to Carmax without buying one there also? What price did they give compared to KBB?

We sold ours to Carmax, and didn't buy one from them. Supposedly it's the same dollar amount regardless.

Our situation was a little weird, in that I had a car that would not pass the state emissions test, and I had reached the absolute dead end for extensions, etc. I needed to have the car sold by a certain date, or I would risk getting my license suspended, and I didn't want to mess with the hassle of trying to clear that up.

Only got a couple hundred bucks, but it seemed reasonable considering the car wouldn't pass emissions test, even after a ton of repair attempts.

Thanks. We're selling a 2000 Olds Intrigue. It's in near perfect condition and has 90,000 miles.

No, but Walt Peterson, district 8 manager, sold his soul to Carmax. That's how he's moved up the ranks so quickly.

That, or he's just damn good at moving inventory.

We have sold two cars to carmax. Got a little above KBB for excellent condition cars.
Both times we got way more than the dealer was offering for a trade.

i have a friend that recently sold an extremely low mileage miati for 3k over kbb.. he was ecstatic.. he went in planning to negotiate, and when their offer came in so much higher than he had thought he could get, he wasnt sure what to do..

i have another friend that had a price set that he wanted.. and they came in 500 over that price.. so he asked for like 200 more than that, just so he could feel like he had negogiated up
