Cool driving video: record at Nurburgring

Here's a guy breaking the production car record at Nurburgring in a Radical SR8 (he did it in 6:55):
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...ing&pr=goog-sl

That's just about the best driving I've ever seen. There's a lot of insane power slides and ridiculously high speeds. To see just how fast he's going, watch him blow by a Mercedes SL like it's standing still towards the end.

The Radical SR8 is a small, open car powered by two Hayabusa engines fused together. 383 HP (at 10K RPM ) in a car that weighs about 700 pounds less than an Elise (granted, it's a track-only car, but damn). Unmuffled, the thing sounds unbelievable.

Can't tell.

here's more info:
http://www.radicalextremesportscars....0905/index.php

It turns out that the car is in fact street legal.

Edit:
Max speed was apparently 161MPH:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/video_g...ap_record.html

The track is about 13 miles long and he did it in less than 7 minutes. Do that math and that's seriously quick for something so fiendishly difficult.

Meh. Maybe I just can't appreciate it like I should but seems like an average open wheel racer. I didn't notice any powersliding. I was watching for the counter steer and didn't seem much.

That was awesome. Having played Gran Turismo 4 for I don't know how many hours, it's also amazing how close the in-game course is to the real thing.

I thought that they didn't allow videos of the track to be recorded.

It's also pretty accurate in PGR3. I knew every curve and when the karousel was coming.

That was a great video. I drove the 'ring last summer and the speeds he's taking the corners at is insane. For example, on the first big downhill(1:20) you're going flat out , cresting a hill, hellacious understeer, and have maybe 6 feet of runoff if you screw up the turn, otherwise you're in the wall. And on the 2nd jump(5:35) he hit the jump and made the turn like he was on a sunday drive. I took that same corner at a lot slower speed and it scared the crap outta me. Props go out to the driver.

WOW. Great Vid. Great Track.

I like what Bob Varsha said one year when the F1 cars were racing at the "new" Nurburgring... (Paraphrasing)

"Welcome everybody to the site of one of the greatest race tracks in the world! ...and we're racing on a track right next to it."

I'm sorry, I thought this post was in Other.

Thought I'd do a quick check to make sure you weren't being a hypocrite. Took me about three seconds to find out: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showpos...08&postcount=2

How am I a hypocrite? The thread was about King of the Hill being renewed. I said I liked King of the Hill but I think it is past it's prime and didn't need to be renewed.

You'd have a point if your post about the video of the nurburgring had anything to do about the video other than your clear disinterest in it. Now if you would have said "That guy was fast but the video isn't as exciting as you said it was." Then it wouldn't be a blantant threadcrap.

It's all about semantics

I am interested in both cars and racing - the description "cool driving video" made me want to see... once I saw, I felt cheated. Sorry.

I'm no racing fan and I obviously had no clue what the hell Nurburgring was so I was hoping for something kick ass. The guy might be going way fast but it's on a racing track so that is expected. Now show me a video of a guy going like that down a street or somewhere that isn't designed for those speeds and I would have been more impressed.

Then we'd just have a repeat of the 155mph bike speeding thread.

It isn't designed for those speeds. The thing about the Nür Nordschleife is that it's not a damn racetrack! It's basically the equivalent to race on a curvy back-country road with blind turns, steep inclines and declines, etc. It's about the furthest thing possible from a regular F1 or Nascar racetrack. It makes Laguna Seca seem like the 8 and under course at Fred's Go-Kart Arena. It's simply one of the hardest racetracks in the world.
