So who wants Puppies?

My black lab decided to have her pups today. Thankfully, I came home from work after the first few were born. She had a total of 8 pups in about 3 hours. I have no clue what to do now. I know I can't get rid of them for 6-8 weeks, but if anyone here wants any I can put them in a mailer and ship them...hehe.

Cute dogs. Do you let her run free or did one of your dogs knock her up? Is there a reason you didn't get her fixed if you weren't prepared for the consequences? Did she get pregnant really young?

I'd imagine you should contact local shelters, as well as friends at work, etc...

She wasn't fixed, which is no one's fault but our own. We kept her chained up in the yard when she went out, but when she went in heat a couple of months ago a suitor came callin' and the rest is history. We have friends who have had dogs that had pups so we were prepared in that regard. It's just a new experience for me.
I know I won't have a problem placing them. Being the 1st time I've experienced this I just wanted to share...

Here's a pic of the Dad. We nicknamed him "Banger"

Oddly though, none of the pups looks at all like him.

They don't look like him at all, you're right.

Sounds like a case for Montel!

Get her spayed as soon as the pups are weaned.

Go to www.dog-play.com for information on taking care of mother and pups.

I thought Maury was the one with all of the episodes with paternity tests.

Thanks for the link. We are planning to get her fixed when the pups are weaned. I wish I could keep all of the pups, they're so cute. I've got homes for half of them so far.

Having puppies is not all fun and games, as you probably have figured out by now.

One of my clients has a chihuahua that whelped one large puppy two nights ago. He was breach. She brought pregnant mom in the day before the dog whelped and we did radiographs to find out how many pups she'd have ($186), and then mom was having trouble breathing and had some odd tremors due to possible calcium deficiency ($130), all in the course of two days.

That's pretty expensive for one little chihuahua puppy. It would be more if we had to put the mother on iv fluids due to dehydration and calcium deficiency, but luckily the bloodwork came out more or less normal.

The owner was advised to keep an eye on the pair of them and if anything happened, she'd need to take mom and pup to an ER clinic for treatment, which is really expensive.

Are you sure you don't have a Rottweiler in the neighborhood?

Congrats on the new pups! They're adorable. I think that it takes a few weeks before they start to look a little different, and some may start to look a bit more like dad.

I'd love to take one or two or all, but my little pup is going blind and will need us to focus on him 100%. Anyone know how to take care of a blind dog?

Paging Nosmo Rex to thread... come look at these babies!

You're not the 1st to ask that. They do look an awful like little Rotts...When she 1st went into heat, she broke off her chain and disappeared for 3 days, then the Hound dog turned up and started givin her the bizness. Maybe she hooked up with a Rott while she was away?

Especially this one. He's the only one born with a black nose. He's pretty much got all the marking of a Rott too.

Damn, that's one horny dog.

As for the puppies,
2 tbsp olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1 large onion, diced
Saute until no longer pink.
Add 2 cups marinara sauce
Bring to boil
Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
Top with romano cheese.
Serves four.

Darth...Depending where you are in WV, I may be interested in a pup, if you're willing to give up a female. How close to Pittsburgh?

I can't say for sure, but I have been thinking about a second dog to keep mine company (she's a black lab-rott-sharpei mix), and my granparents could use a new one...as theirs is now blind in both eyes and has failing kidneys...

I'm near Charleston, which would be about 4 hours away. However, I might be heading your way by the time the pups are weaned, so it could work out.

I've always heard puppies. Puppets does make more sense, though.
