Is this "New Car Deal" a scam?

I bought my Scion in 05 and its been great. I havent brought it in to the dealership except for a few minor things.

Anyway, I got a letter in the mail from the dealership saying they have a shortage of used scions to sell so they are 'offering' me a NEW one on a trade in. The letter they sent said things like 'keep your same monthly payments'. Is this legitimate that they are really 'needing' a nearly new used car that bad or is it some kind of scam to sell me something more expensive? My Scion was already pretty nicely packed with extras and is the most expensive model they sell.

That bullshit scam has been running for many years.

I've seen threads about this in the past. Someone said they got a letter that their certain car was in demand and they didn't even own one. I think it was a Jeep Cherokee.

We've also gotten the letters for cars we don't own. They said "if you don't currently own this car, please bring yours in which may also be in demand." Uh huh.

It's not really a scam, per se. They just want you to go in so they can talk you into a new car.

they will sell you a new car and stretch out the financing very far out to cover the upside down cost if any as well as the price of the new car. You'll most likely sign off on an 84 month loan.

yeah, they will trade your car for a new one, with the same monthly payment, but it will be longer than your current loan.
