Man busted with fake billions
15/03/2006 11:27 - (SA)

Los Angeles - The counterfeit money looked good, but there was one flaw. There's no such thing as a $1bn.

United States Customs agents in California said on Tuesday they had found 250 bogus billion dollar bills while investigating a man charged with currency smuggling.

Tekle Zigetta, 45, pleaded guilty to three federal counts of trying to bring cash, phony bills and a fake $100 000 gold certificate into the United States in January.

Further investigation led agents to a West Hollywood apartment where they found the stash of yellowing and wrinkled one billion dollar bills with an issue date of 1934 and bearing a picture of President Grover Cleveland.

"You would think the $1bn denomination would be a giveaway that these notes are fake, but some people are still taken in," said James Todak, a secret services agent involved in the probe.

Zigetta was collecting the bills to send them to his email pal in Nigeria.

Geez what an idiot, if he would've counterfeited 500 $500 million bills he would've gotten away with it

Is it really counterfeit if there's no such thing to begin with?

I hope I don't get busted for my counterfeit bazillion flooble bill... maybe I should wait for the heat to die down before going out and trying to buy gum with it. Seriously - how would this even work? Who has change for 1bn? Only place he could use it is a bank. Perhaps he's just making play money for some elaborate nerd role playing game with his friends.

Didn't something like this happen fairly recently at a Wal-Mart somewhere when someone tried to use it to buy goods? Moron.

"No bills larger than $50? What kind of bullshit is that...all I want is my goddamned number three and large soda!"

I'm afraid you're off by several orders of magnitude. More like $999,998,328.45 in change.
