finally received a rebate check for 20.00 from a fishing pole purchased 5 months ago.

it has my first name and address correct, but the last name is spelt way wrong.

I've had this problem more times than I can count. I just bring the check to the bank teller and explain it to him. Usually, he'll have me endorse it as the wrong name and then as the right name and then they can cash it. I wouldn't send it back or ask for another one since it'd take another 5 months at least

As a lawyer specializing in financial matters, I am asked this question all the time. The advice I give to my clients and that I am now giving to you is this: The easiest thing to do is to legally change your name to that on the check. (In your case, "Antonino".) Please let me know if you'd like me to fax you the paperwork.

At least 5 months is right.

I'd sign it like most people. So scribbly you can't tell and just take it to the teller for cash.

Just sign it with the wrong name, then a slash, then your name. I've never had a problem. Banks want to cash the checks.

My first name is John, I got a check addressed to KPIO once. Every letter was one up from where it was supposed to be. I told the teller, she laughed about it, and cashed it.
