So... The Invisible Man would be Blind?

I heard this over the weekend and I want some facts:

Basically, if someone was invisible, they would be blind because there would be no light reflecting off their retinas.

OR

Would someone go insane because all they could see is blinding white light? Well unless he was in a completely dark environment I guess.

Anyone know for sure?

As part of my degree, I worked on a study where we looked at 40 men: 20 invisible, 20 visible (the control group). We found that 65% of invisible men were blind, whereas only 15% of visible men had significant sight loss.

So it was a blind study?

Kudos, Groucho, on getting test subjects. Invisible men are hard to find these days.

Superman is getting tired of being a superhero. So, he decides to go
out and have some fun. He flys to gotham city and asks batman if he
wants to go with him, get drunk, and get laid. Batman says no man, I
gotta protect gotham city, you know. So superman flys to spiderman and
asks him if he wants to go out, get drunk, and get laid. Spiderman
also refuses by saying he has to protect the city. So superman goes
alone. He's flying along when he sees wonder woman spread eagle, right
in the middle of nowhere. He thinks to himself "I'm as fast as a
speeding bullet. I'll giver her a quick pop and she won't notice" So
superman flys down, fucks her and flys back up. Wonder woman says
"What the fuck was that?" The invisible man says, "I don't know but my
ass is really killing me..."

I don’t think we rely so much on reflected light as we do absorbing the light through our rods and cones straight into the optic nerve.

If we were cats and our tapitum lucidums (reflective layer behind the retina) went invisible, it would affect our night vision.

In the story, Griffin experiments on a cat and as it fades away he says something about “for days all you could hear was its yowling and sometimes see faintly glowing eyes.” He couldn’t get the eyes all the way invisible. Maybe Wells knew about the tapitum lucidum.

I think our main problem would be focusing because our corneas couldn’t bend the light.

It's a nice theory, but not something I'd ever donate real time to debating - it's an invisible man, after all.

Wow talk about a killer headache after hours of trying to focus on what you're looking at.

So you could SEE but it would be all blurry?

Scientifically speaking, he would go blind from hanging around women's locker rooms all the time.

That primarily, and the fact that our cones and rods would be excited by light striking them from all angles, not just the narrow cone at the front.

Well, in the original story, Griffin did go insane anyway.

Anyone know for sure?
We are talking about an invisible man here. Who would possibly know for sure??

My post was in reference to the excitation of the narrow rod in the front.

I'm fairly certain Kevin Bacon still has his sight.

Nah, otherwise he'd have seen the script for Beauty Shop.

Zing! That would actually be a case for loss of sanity (or needing a mortgage payment for that month).

Nope. Invisible men are blind. The nature of invisibility means that all light passes through you. None is absorbed, otherwise you'd be a silhouette man, not an invisible man. If the light passes completely through your optics, you'd never perceive it. You'd be blind.

Couldn't it be a case of light being warped around you (as opposed to bouncing off of you into other peoples' eyes, making you visible to others). At least, I think that's how they explained Susan Richards' ability in the Fantastic Four comics. (and even that explanation would seem to lead to blindness in the individual)
