Crap! We're getting a blizzard tomorrow! (2/11/06)

It's been a rather mild winter so far. Only a couple of inches of snow total, and the temps have been higher than normal. Shoot, it was close to 70 degrees a few days last month.

Sadly, it looks like that is about to change. Forecasters are tracking a nor'easter headed this way (NYC area) that could bring up to 2 feet of snow. BAH!

I live about a block away from a supermarket, so I strolled over to see if it was crowded. Boy howdy, there were people actually running in the aisles to stock up on 8 gallons of milk and 11 loaves of bread. The nearby deli had a line that went out the door and at least 30 feet down the sidewalk. You would think they live in the middle of the prairie.

Hopefully, this isn't the year that I keel over while shovelling.

Oh crap, I have to stop at the store for a few things on my way home. If I never post again, I was probably crushed to death by a fat woman trying to buy 147 gallons of milk.

My kids can't wait for the snow. They got snowboards for Christmas, and since then we've had warm weather. I love it, but they're going out of their minds.

Meh. Everytime they call for a lot of snow, we don't get much. I'll believe it when I see it.

Reminds me of what happened in early March of '01. The forecasters said 3 feet of snow, and we didn't get a single flake. Let's hope that's the way of it this time too.

wasn't it three years ago when they said we wouldn't get much and DC was buried under 2 feet?

A local Philly weatherman (John Bolaris) was practically run out of town over that forecast. People spent a lot of time and money preparing for a blizzard, and businesses spent even more.

My wife, who was born and raised in northern Vermont, just shakes her head at the way people panic around here every time snow is mentioned. She refuses to watch the local news when they get in their "storm watch" mode.

Local grocery stores were insane all day today here in northeast NJ and the storm is not expected until Sat evening. You would think people are never going to have an opportunity to buy food again. Many of these people could probably walk to the store anyway. But you would never really ever have to. The snow removal and salt trucks are out constantly. We could get a foot of snow and by the end of the day most of the roads are clear and perfectly fine for vehicle traffic. And despite TV commercials to the contrary, you don't ever really need an SUV or 4WD. A regular front wheel drive car works just fine and is probably safer too.

I was due for a grocery store trip tonight, but I didn't even think twice about dealing with that BS.

What exactly is it about bread and milk that people think they need so much of? Does it help get your car unstuck or something?

Just got back from the grocery store actually (its shopping night), the isles were pretty barren in the store. You would think the second coming of Katrina was coming or something around here. Still wondering why I left sunny as FL for this weather sometimes regardless of how mild this winter has been so far.
