Dateline NBC defines 'LOL'

During thier sexual predetors exposed show tonight, Dateline NBC read the transcripts of Chats between preditors and employees posing as 13 year olds.

Whenever they came to a passage that said 'LOL', the narrator made a 'heh' sound.

I always assumed LOL was a mild chuckle - hehehe

Your thoughts?

"LOL" is the sound of the Rofl Copter coming in for a landing.

Hmmm, I spend so much time online that I no longer laugh out loud. If someone arounds me says something funny, I just say "LOL".

I usually say "haha" The level of funniness is determined by how many extra "ha" are added. If something really makes me laugh out loud it's usually "hahaha" and then every once in awhil but not often it's "hahahahaha"

If someone does something that should make you smile do you instead say, "Colon closed parenthesis."

And then do they reply, "You should see a doctor about that."

99.99% of the time when i type lol i actually did not laugh out loud or make any noise whatsoever. its just a silly reply to something meant to be funny (which it may or may not be) but isnt funny enough to make me actually laugh. if im really laughing i will type haha or "im actually laughing".

I hate LOL. It's usually typed as a response to make someone not think they're being ignored. It's especially annoying when someone says something they know is stupid and they have no reason to laugh. It doesn't make it sound less stupid.

Seriously, you get an X? The comment I made wouldn't be a good one just to leave to one's imagination.

Thanks.

(BTW, in my post above, it's supposed to show the "Lollercoaster". It still shows up for me, so I don't know what the deal is. It's not really important enough for me to figure it out though )

Here’s an interesting read on lol:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=lol

I particularly like their examples:

A term commonly used on the internet when you're not really paying attention, or have nothing to say.
Person: Man, my grandma died today. I'm totally bummed.
Me: lol

Person: Today was boring.
*10 minutes later*
Me: Lol.

randomsn1-whats black and white and red all over?
randomsn2-what?
randomsn1- A penguin thats addicted to salsa!
randomsn2- lol
randomsn1- you sick bastard. I am blocking you.

It's especially handy cause it's one of the few things the MySpacers actually can spell correctly, on average.
