Manhattan's Chinatown is pure bedlam for New Years celebrations - just like Times Square is for December 31.

I'll sit this one out ..... but yes, Happy New Year!

Man, was it crowded yesterday in Chinatown. Too bad the rain start coming down around 1pm.

I caught 1 one these and the other one, someone snatched the parachute away, leaving me with the string

Cute little girl

This is only part of the crowd

Pretty damn hard to get an open clear shot of a the lion dance with the crowd. This is like the only decent one

Bitchy

Nice pics zuffy.

You are the Ansel Adams of Chinese New Year photography.

I guess the year of the dog is going to be a plus for your photography.

I was going to take some yesterday but I was five minutes late so I just got some food from the Chinese bakery.

What's with the parachute? I've never seen that before. Is there money there or just good luck?

Nothing. Just a new gimmick they put in those rockets or whatever you call those sticks. Friggin thing is expensive as hell. They go for $8-10 a piece and has a 30% failure to pop.

Confused. It's a rocket that pops and lets out a parachute?

One of these days, I need to check out the NY Chinatown.

It pops out those colorful papers and the parachute has a banner saying gong hey fat choi. I think it's the big gold ones that has the parachute. The rest just pops out colorful papers.
