Went to Reykjavik, Iceland, for this past New Year's. Had the time of my life.
New Zealand is probably my favorite, though. I love that place. Great people. Great food. Great scenery - especially on the South Island.
Fast fact: NZ and the USA are the only two countries with direct-to-consumer advertizing for medicine.

Japan. Love the food, people, shopping, pop culture. I always look forward to going there. The crowds are kinda teh suck though.
From the above posts, I'm very curious about Norway, New Zealand and Iceland. I hope to visit them all someday.

Japan--love the people, the food, and the rural countryside.
I've only been to various places in Asia, the Caribbean and Mexico/Canada, but I hope to get to Europe in the next year or two.

The south island of New Zealand is incredible, and I'm not a bit biased even though my husband lived there almost his entire life.
England will always be my home away from home. The people are friendly and I feel so comfortable there. I feel safer walking the streets of London or Oxford at night than I do in my little town here in Oregon!

Not that I've been to a lot of countries, but I'm going to throw another vote in for Japan. It was NOT what I was expecting (I was thinking that all of Asia was like India.
Boy was I wrong)

If you can take away the political crises, my vote is hands-down for Colombia (it's getting better). If you could replace all the people with friendly people and install a weather machine, my vote would be Germany.
Otherwise, I'd have to go with Italy.

Italy. I've been back 7 or 8 times. I'm trying to expand my repetoire (pardon my french) in future trips and Italy is only planned for every-other vacation. Australia and Switzlerland were also awesome.
This year it's Spain... more for sentimental reasons than anything else. I don't expect it to be my "favorite country" but it should be a great vacation.
My least favorite place to visit was definitely France, but I was young and art was like vegetables. I need to go back because I know I can have a better experience there.
I also still need to get to India, parts of Africa, China, Amsterdam, Israel, and the Carribbean... anything beyond that is probably extra credit, and I doubt I will get to see them all unless I retire well.
Looking at my top choices, I always seem to enjoy places the most when I make an effort to learn the language. Or maybe I make an effort in the places that are sure to be my favorites.

I’ve been to about 2 dozen countries and I like different things about many of them. The countries I got to know the best (Mexico-lived there for 7 years, and Japan-1 year) I love because I think I got an understanding of the real people. For hedonistic single guy fun I would rank Thailand, PI, and Singapore as the top three. For sheer beauty of the scenery Eastern Canada and Fiji for very different reasons. For shopping it would be Hong Kong. Sri Lanka gets the nod because I killed a man there with my bare hands and that will always be a cool story. I love the beach so I would have to list the Virgin Islands, then Mexico and our own Hawaii as top spots I’ve seen for that.

Another vote for West Germany.
Specifically the state of Bavaria.
