WOW...What a run

Pretty tired tonight, and was down about ~$15 today. After Lost, decided to play for an hour before bed. Playing $.10-$.25 and sat down at a table with $10. One hour later, I leave with $87.20.

Here are the hands that won me the money:

AA - $24.65
QQ - $50.15
A7s - $7.65
77 - $28.65
KJo - 6.20
AKo - $21.40
33 - $9.55

Here are some of the hand histories. Feel free to critique as I probably lucked out on a few. Guy blasted me on the 77 hand as I hit my 2 outer on the turn.

I don't have a big problem with your 77 hand. The fault was his for not pushing on the flop and making you fold. Very odd preflop raise from him and when he flops his monster he played it very weak and let you catch up.

Well played and quite a run you had there! I agree with Wally's comments on the hand where you had pocket 7's. I can understand slow playing a set on occasion, but in this situation with a flush draw on the board, I would think he'd show a little more aggression to at least get a feel for what his opponents might hold. Guess that's a bit too much thinking for a $.10/$.25 NL game.

I had the craziest run of five hands that I've ever seen last night.

Hand 1: AQ offsuit, paid nothing.
Hand 2: AQ spades, paid nothing.
Hand 3: KK, paid $19.09.
Hand 4: AA, paid $17.90.
Hand 5: 66, paid nothing.
then, after sitting one hand out..
Hand 7: Ac4c, paid $9.59

All of those were back to back to back to...well, you get the picture. No preflop folds in between, just one after the other, after the other. I ended up making $40 or so, counting the losses from the hands that didn't pay. Here's how the AA and KK played out ($0.50/$1 limit game):

Blinds posted.
I'm dealt KK.
One $0.50 call.
I raise to $1.
Four callers, preflop pot: $4.84
9c, 8c, 4d
Guy bets $0.50.
Caller.
I make it $1.00.
One fold, three callers. Pot: $8.64
9c, 8c, 4d, Jd
Guy bets $1.
Caller.
I make it $2.00.
Three callers. Pot: $16.24
9c, 8c, 4d, Jd, 4h
Two checks.
I bet $1.
Two callers. Pot: $19.09

Very next hand, I'm dealt AA.
One $0.50 call.
I make it $1.00.
Three callers.
Guy raises to $1.50.
I cap it at $2.00.
Four callers. Preflop pot: $9.83
6h, Kc, Qs
Two checks.
I bet $0.50.
Two callers. Pot: $11.25
6h, Kc, Qs, 9h
Check.
I bet $1.00
Two callers. Pot: $14.10
6h, Kc, Qs, 9h, 2d
Guy bets $1.00
I raise to $2.00
One fold.
He calls. Pot: $17.90

Super aggressive table, and everybody acted almost immediately, no pausing to contemplate the situation. I'm glad I didn't get drawn out on by KQ or J10 on that last hand, but with the hyperactive table I was at, I figured I was good with my AA.

Two hands later, I'm in the big blind with Ac4c.
Four $0.50 callers.
One raise to $1.00.
I call $0.50 to $1.00.
Next to act raises to $1.50.
Three folds, initial raiser calls, I call. Preflop pot: $5.79
Qd, 4h, 6h
Check, check, check.
Qd, 4h, 6h, 5h
I lead out for $1 trying to steal.
One call, one fold. Pot: $7.69
Qd, 4h, 6h, 5h, Ah
I think for a second...
I bet $1, hoping he can't call without a heart.
He calls. Damn.
His hand is mucked, I take down the pot: $9.59
I'm confused and happy.

Nifty seven hand stretch at the $0.50/$1.00 tables, if I do say so myself.

A little history. I bought in for $100 late Thursday night. I've played a hell of a lot over the weekend. Mainly $0.25/0.50 and $0.50/1.00 limit, with a couple of smaller tourneys and $25-50 NL thrown into the mix. I've been staying away from risks, just playing smart poker. I told myself that I don't need to make a huge profit in an hour, that a steady profit throughout the day will bring me more than I could make at any part-time college kid job and that if I'm patient enough, it'll add up. That's why I'd been losing lately...I was too impatient.

I'd worked my bankroll up to $275 at one point...then I hit one of the coldest streaks of cards I've seen in a long, long time. KK cracked left and right, top sets running against flopped or backdoored straights, etc. I was down under $200 and my spirits were down. Something about seeing $1xx again. I worked my way back up to $245 (with a lot of swings for limit poker) before hitting another cold streak and dropping down to $225. I decided that I was at an icy table and left.

Now, onto my "what a run" story. Sitting at $228 and change, I decided to play a $50+$4, six-person Sit'n'Go. This goes against what I was trying to accomplish with being patient, but I wanted a quick fix and I'd just finished second in a $10+$1 5-person. Well, blinds got up there and I wasn't catching hands. Before I knew it, I was down to $650 or so, five people left, blinds at $50/100. I went all-in with K7 and got called by a guy with K10. Board came 99AAx. My one saving grace.

A couple of hands later, I was in the big blind. The short stack (only $220 or so in chips) called, and everybody folded to me. I had AA, and I raised the $120 to put him all-in. He called, and I was up to $950 or so. Few hands later, I get AK. The short stack (just a touch under me, $850 or so) goes all-in, I call. I don't hit, but apparently I don't need to. I'm at $1600, and I'm in the money. Phew.

Couple hands later, the chip leader takes out the middle stack. He and I go into heads up, his $5,200 to my $800. I actually manage to buy a pot or two with face-card high, and get up to $1100 or so. Then he goes all-in and I call with 22. Hit a 2 and his Q8s doesn't beat the set. I'm at $2200 or so to his $3800. Blinds are $100/200 by this point. A few plays later, we're in about the same position. I'm dealt AK. He goes all-in, I call and win. Now I'm the 5:1 chip leader. I fold a small blind or two to him, biding my time. I'm dealt A2. He goes all-in for $1050 or so, I call. Board comes xx345.

I was just being blinded away with five people left. Two spots of the money, I was all-in with a dominated hand, and an unforgiving board away from watching my bankroll hit my late Friday total of $174. Worst to first, and I'm up to $324.14, the first time I've cracked $300 since my Thursday deposit of $100.

You have no idea how exciting it was winning that tournament. I've won $30+$3 ten-person tourneys that paid out the same. I've won $50+$4 six-person tourneys before. It's always nice to win `em, but this one...when I went in dejected and on tilt going in, when I was two cards away from elimination needing one of five outs just to split the pot, when I was a 1:5 underdog going into heads up...I can't put into words how thrilling it was to win. My heart was pounding, I jumped from my chair...this is why I'm addicted to poker.

Hopefully that thrill will hold me over for another good while, and I can get back to the grind of a smart, steady, relatively risk-free profit. Just thought I'd share. Thanks for reading.

Oh, and a tie-in the the post before this one..

At the table during my run of cold cards, I saw a guy get AA, AA, xx, AA in four hands. I flopped top pair the second and third time he got them, too. What are the odds of somebody seeing AA in three of four consecuitive hands? Astronomical, no?

Speaking of wow what a run. I started today with $350 in my account. I'm at $912.99 now...and all of it was made at the $200 NL ($1/2 blinds) tables. But what I came here to post about was...

It's 5:38am right now. We got home at around 4:30 from a live ring game here in town (same, $1/2 blinds). I finished that up $215, in addition to my online profits. I sat down at the $200 NL table to see a few hands, try to make another $50 or so before bed. I hit a flush on the river and got paid off by a guy who hit his straight, plus a few other good plays and decent hands...and I left that table with exactly $450 (up $250 in about 15 minutes max).

I fiddle around online, take the dog out, and decide that I want to play for another 15 minutes or so before calling it a night. I sit down at the $200 NL table and this happens:

Hand number 1: Big blind, I'm dealt KK. I make it $12 to go, get three limpers to fold (plus the folded small blind), so I rake $7.
Hand number 2: Small blind, I'm dealt AA. There's a limp, a raise to $6, and a call when it gets around to me. I make it $18 to go, hoping for some action and definitely trying to protect what I've found to be a very vulnerable "best starting hand" as of late. The limper folds, the original raiser makes it $72 to go. The caller folds, I push all-in for $207 total (the guy has $194 so I have him covered). He calls, flips over KK, my hand holds up.
Hands 3-8: I'm dealt 65h, ATo, AQo, JTo, 89s...all playable starting hands. I wanted to keep it over $200 profit in that two minutes that I played, so I decided that I'd only play monsters. I limped the first hand with 65h (hell, after KK and AA, you'd play the shit out of it too). Folded ATo, limped with AQo but folded to a 6xbb raise, and folded JTo and 89s. For the record, I wouldn't have hit anything with any of those hands (except for the AQ...that hand never got to a flop, everybody folded to the massive raise).

In maybe...maybe 15-20 minutes of online poker, I made $451, shortly after coming home from a live game where I made $215 (plus another $120 or so that I'd made online before leaving for the live game).

"WOW...What a run" is right.

If that's me, two kings flop and give the guy quads against my AA. Then just for shits and giggles the river sets my aces.

In the time it took me to type that: $2011.58 (JT suited, hit trips, hated calling his huge bet on the river but he had 8T).
