Skagway Alaska ??

Going to Skagway Alaska in August. I have never been to Alaska before. ANyone ever been to Skagway? How was it? What was the weather like? Any info would be great! Thanks!

the cruise I took stopped there, can't remember which town it was though, we stopped in a lot
but every place we stopped was cool

We've been there, it was a port of call for our cruise. We took a steam engine train up a mountain and they showed us where the gold rush took place. It was interesting because they said some of the miners were still buried under the rubble. The train stopped somewhere in Canada and then we took a tour down the moutain on bicycles. It was 15 miles we biked down and it was awesome.

Yeah - the white pass railroad takes you on tours out of Skagway. That's about the only thing there is to do there that's worthwhile from what I remember.

Thanks for the info! We will be riding the train for sure. I can't wait I love trains. Anyways its a hell of travel day just getting there from plane. Not doing the cruise because I don't have that much time off. Will be in Skagway for four days. Train ride, a hike and a few days of R&R and then back to San Francisco!

I backpacked up the chilkoot pass. The train is for wimps.

The town is pretty small and just a tourist trap. We did see a whale on the ferry into town.
