Anybody going to Vegas soon?

I used to go at least once a year, but it's been almost 2 1/2 years since the last trip (babies will do that).

Heading out with the wife 3/5-3/9, leaving right before NASCAR hits town. A bunch of people she works with are going, so I'm going to try and hit some poker rooms.

I've been watching hotels for the past couple months, and finally found a good deal. The Aladdin (soon to be Planet Hollywood) is $79/nt. Pretty much anything half decent seems to be running at least $120/nt.

We are planning on going to Zumanity. Anyone been?
Probably will also try the 1/2 price ticket places and get tickets to see The Amazing Jonathan.

Going on while we are there is the Jeff Gordon Poker Classic at Caesars (3/7-3/8), so I'll probably swing by there and check it out...unless you guys want to bankroll me...only $1,000 buy-in. I might be lucky...last month my brother was invited to a tournament for free at Harrah's and took 2nd place...$15,000.

Anybody else going to be in town the same time?

I saw Zumanity when I was there early this month. It's about 65% amazing acrobatic stuff, and 35% stupid comedy routines. I enjoyed it, but i'm not sure it's worth the $100 I spent on a ticket.

I will be out there Mar 16 - 20 for a friends birthday, which happens to coincide with St. Patty's weekend. Hope to check out the new room at Caesars and play a bit at Wynn and Bellagio. Just have to stay away from the BlackJack tables that raped me last time I was there in November.

Anyone going in March might want to check out NCAA tournament dates and spend some time in the sports book.

I thought about making a few bets, but I don't follow College Basketball much and am horrible when it comes to picking winners. I may consider it thought as it's such a big thing to do during that time in Vegas.

Back from Vegas a few days ago. Unfortunately I didn't get a lot of quality gambling time. Didn't make it to a poker room, just mostly a little blackjack...ended up with in the positive a small amount (~$100).

We stayed at the Aladdin ($79/nt special...which was a good deal for the 4 nights we were there...that's the same Circus Circus was charging and everywhere else was way higher). I did the $20 tip trick at check-in, and recieved a resort view room (normally an extra $50/nt).

I did make it over to Caesar's Palace on Wednesday and caught the second half of the introductions for the Jeff Gordon Poker Classic.

Yeah...he touched my wife's arm as he walked by her.

I don't think she knew his reputation, so I filled her in on it. It made her feel special.

Starting to get pumped for the trip. Will be landing Thursday around 11pm and doing the 15 hour session before getting a room Friday night.

Hope to get some time in at the poker tables at MGM, Mirage, Bellagio, Caesars, and the Wynn. Hopefully, with the games going on it will bring some loose money to the tables.

Griz... Nice pics...did they give you any grief taking pictures inside the poker room?

Thanks. I'm actually very disappointed with my pics in the poker room. I didn't have my camera set up correctly for the lighting conditions (and I left my big flash at home...to big to pack around Vegas).

There was no grief. There were a lot of lookee-loos with cameras taking pictures during the introductions (fans and press). I left before the tournament actually started, so I don't know if they put a stop to it once it started. The tournament was also in the back of the poker room, while the regular joes playing non-tournament poker were in the front.

I was only there for about 15 minutes or so, and then had to head out. We grabbed a bite to eat for lunch and then headed over to Hoover Dam. I have some nice pics from there that I'll post if I get a chance. I'd recommend this as a side trip to those with transportation and a little free time during the day. Even my wife really enjoyed it. I didn't think she would, seeing how she hated the Panama Canal.

BTW, the pics were taken with a Digital Rebel XT (by an inexperienced SLR photographer) and the stock lens. I'm drooling over Zuffy's pics in his Disneyworld thread and the lens he uses, but the lens costs twice what I paid for my camera!

During the day we went to a few things for my wife (and the group we were with). We went to the Shark Reef at Mandalay. That wasn't too bad. We also went to Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin habitat. That was okay. I think I got a few nice pics from there...I haven't gotten a chance to go through those yet. I was hoping to see the Tiger that attacked Roy, but no such luck.

One night we went to the Voodoo Lounge on top of the Rio, but I didn't lug my camera up there, although I did contemplate it for the incredible views.

I thought casinos frowned on photo-taking inside the casinos?

They're probably more lax about it in the poker room, given the fact that all the recording devices in the world can't possibly aid in cheating the house out of money -- they get their rake regardless. But if someone using cameras gains an advantage at a table game like blackjack their winfall could be huge.

ill be heading to vegas in april - what hotels are recommended...i know obviously the big ones are always nice but very pricey (bellagio, venetian, wynn). what mid-tier nice casinos do you recommend (on the strip only please).

seems like for a weekend (fri-sun) you cant get a decent hotel on the strip for under 200 a night.
