Kids stealing straws--why?

I'm in line at 7-11 last night and 3 kids(probably 17-19 years old) come in, go over to the slurpee/big gulp machine, grab 20 or so straws each and walk out, sticking the straws in their jackets like they were shoplifting them... Anyone have an clue why 3 kids would need 60 straws?

Teenagers rarely have a clue why they do what they do, so how do you expect us to have one?

The following contains information obtained from various government agencies around the world. The lives of four people and one ham sandwich were consumed in detailing this report.

It has been confirmed that the radical Islamic fundamentalist campaign, widely recognised as al-Qaeda, are planning another terrorist attack. Teenagers around the world have been recruited in a plot to create the greatest straw-drought the world has ever seen.

Imagine a hot summer day. You purchase yourself a refreshing, chilled beverage only to discover there's no straws on the counter. Fearing your thirst will go unsatisified, you dash outside to be greeted by two ten year olds clutching a fistful of straws. Reluctantly, they agree to sell you one for a pitiful $10 fee. The terrorists have won again!

In an effort to curtail this situation before it spreads into a full-blown epidemic, I recommend any and all teenagers are to be escorted to concentration camps and systematically interrogated.

Stay tuned next week as we reveal that people who talk on cellphones in theatres are actually sleeper agents for al-Qaeda and the seventeen ways they can be killed with your bare-hands.

We use to steal McDonald's straws when I was a teenager.

We would wrap/twist the straw up from both ends and "flick" the exposed center - this would cause the straw to burst, making a "bang".

McDonald's straws were the best becuase theye have(had?) a diameter that was probably 30% bigger than the average straw.

So what you're saying is it doesn't matter how long it is, just how thick?

I had a friend a while back that used to steal straws from fast food places for a collection he kept at home. He would lift everything from just a handful to a couple whole bundles (if he could get away with it). I didn't realize how much he was into this until I went to his house for the first time and saw he had an entire double-wide closet nearly filled with them.

I grab a handful of straws everytime I eat at a fastfood place. I dont' eat at them that often, but I hate not having straws around the house....so I replenish when needed.

Some people just like hoarding things that are "free" such as napkins, ketchup packets, sugar/sweetener packets, those publications they have near the door, etc.

Maybe their parents run a resturant, and are trying to cut costs by not paying for straws.
