Do you blog?

Title says it all, but here are some followup questions:

If you do, why? What is your purpose in blogging?

Do you really intend others to read it, or is just a place to put thoughts?

What blog site do you use? Any special software to make it easy?

Do you have a preference as to blog sites - do certain sites seem 'better' than others - or do they have a 'blog flavor' - i.e. fun blogs, professional blogs etc.

I did Blog with a friend for the summer about local news.

But we didn't have the time for it.

Now I just use Livejournal, if that counts as a blog.

I put it off for a long time, but I had a girlfriend last Summer who wanted me to write about her. Now that we're not together I may delete some of that stuff, but I use it now to write about scuba diving.

In the past year its become the most popular way to keep up with family goings-on with the extended family (www.blogspot.com). I have over 18 first cousins (out of 50 something) that blog regularly. We all live in different states, so its a cheap way to communicate. Some of the hardcore ones have multiple blogs and some of them are flikr fanatics.

I post to mine about once a week and the family one every so often.

I have a few friends that blog and a few students who do as well. Heck, one of the first PHP/MySQL exercises that we do in one of the web classes is design and build a blog from scratch.

... and on top of that there are several professional ones that I read from time to time as well as some humorous ones.

If you are looking for software to install on your server and blog, the big 3 are:

www.wordpress.org - Free and easy!

www.movabletype.org (MovableType/TypePad/LiveJournal) - Use to be good, but they've partnered with Yahoo! and have now gone corporate. But there is a downloadable, unsupported free version if you look hard enough.

www.textpattern.com - The new kid on the block but I've heard its pretty good.

My personal pref is WordPress. I've been playing with it for awhile, reskinning it and seeing what I can do. But that's about it.

I don't , and don't read any blogs. I semi-thought about it as I have an on-going correspondence going with a friend I used to work with. Started out just talking about DVDs but has turned into "the daily adventures of" thing, which is why I thought it could be a blog. But then I remembered that I'm boring.

Yes, though not to blog just to blog. I have a few outlets to do it, so depending on the subject, will determine where it goes. I have a place for college/grad school friends, and another for everyone else. I also have a professional-type site, but I don't blog there.

The only bigger waste of time than reading personal blogs is writing one, so no, I don't.

Is 'blog' a codeword? If so, I think some of you should be arrested.

I've got no one who would care enough to read about my rather boring life so I guess the answer is No.

About eighteen months ago, I started a blog. Wrote in it for three days, then nothing since. I can't even remember which blog site now.

I have a blog, but due to my life being very uninteresting it is only updated once a month or so...probably even less.

I like blogging and I do blog frequently to pass the time, and express my thoughts. I've always liked jounal writing. Its always fun to look back a year ago and see what kind of person you've become or see the things that have changed in your life. I use myspace, its highly addictive to say the least!
