How do I make the holiday egg nogg, what kind of liquer and how much?

I am going to the liquar store in a minute and have some egg nogg from a while back in my fridge and want to add some alchohol to it like in the movies. Which type is the traditional liquar to use in egg nogg and how much do I use? What do y'all suggest, tis the season yull time carols.

Do you taste the alchohol at all since the egg nogg is so thick and rich I am not a fan of hard liquar so I would rather not taste to much of it but I like the eneding effect that is brings me. so will I taste it much?

I would never drink and drive silly. but I need to know what type of liqur to buy. They say burbon or rum which is better for egg nogg? They also said Brandy but I was once told that Brandy was a drink that you drank out of a small glass bye it self and just enjoyed the brady so I wouldn't want to ruin it in some egg nogg if it is meant to be enjoyed.

Southern Comfort or other types of bourbon work well in plain old store bought egg-nog. Only had it a few times but it was good.

I prefer bourbon rather than rum. it can be made with a lot of liquor and still not taste too strong

there's a ton of recipes at foodtv.com. I like Alton Brown's recipe:

I got back for the liquar store and tried it. I bought wild turket 101 proof and when I opened it and smelled it I almost puked. I then put about 4 shots into a glass with ice and then about 6oz of bordons eggnogg and bot did it tastes like crap. I then pourd it out and just ate 5 shots of the bourban and almost upchucked and now my throat is real scratchy in the back after I drank it.
