All of Alderaan's banks were required to be insured by the Yavin FDIC.

But wait, The Emperor pretty much kicked the ass of most of the known Star Wars Galaxy, he had thousands of soldiers, and other stuff.

I would think he was pretty wealthy.

Planet destruction probably falls under the "Acts of God" clause. Damn insurance companies will always look for a loophole.

Queen Victoria was the head of the British Empire, which kicked ass all over the world. That didn't make her a millionaire.

How does Santa make money? He gives the toys and candy away. I wouldn't call that a "source".

Dude, Advertising! If you want your toy to be the big ticket item, you gotta pay Santa! Also, i'm sure he's trademarked his name and likeness.

star wars doesn't count since its on planet earth...it was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

and where did they get a cash out for WONKA...

he's doing the same basic thing as santa, but selling product instead of giving it away.

What about the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV from DUNE? He had entire planets paying taxes to to him.

A friend of mine pointed out that Scrooge McDuck would be #46 if he were on the actual, real-world Forbes 400 list. Does this mean there are 45 people in the world who have enough money that they could literally fill up a money bin and swim around in it?

I guess many wealthy Alderaanian citizens would have most of their assets in banks on other planets. Can't put all your eggs in one basket...

And I imagine Palpatine is a very wealthy guy if he has unlimited funds to do anything, like start the Clone Wars, fund a clone army, have big ties with the richest people in the Galaxy (Trade Federation, Kurt Drive Yards etc.) and build supeweapons the size of small moons.

My childhood is destroyed. I was under the impression that Richie Rich was worth WAY more than that. $17 billion. What crap.

I'd think a list like this would be important in that the person's richness 'defines' them as a fictional character - so Scrooge McDuck, Daddy Warbucks, Richie Rich all work. But Santa Claus is not defined by his wealth.

Nor does the Star Wars argument fit, so what fictional characters ARE defined by the fact that they are wealthy?

Flintheart Glomgold almost can, as he is the second richest duck in the world.

(yeah, there's an obscure reference)

Not too obscure since Duck Tales just came out on DVD. Glomgold was fresh on my mind.
