How many names does your cat have?

I remember a poem or essay or something by someone that stated cats have 8 human names and one secret one.

My cat has a prime name (from the movie Fantastic Planet: “What a little terror, I think I’ll name him Terr”).

From that she has prime derivatives:

Terr-orrist
Terr-minator
Terr-ible
Terr-adactyl –I know. I’m usually drunk when I call her that.

Then:

Pikachu: From when I worked graveyard and got hooked on Pokemon at 6 in the morning after work.

Browbeater: from her funny brow.

Skulker: She skulks.

Lurker: She does that too.

Squeaker: Do the math.

Chirp: Again, she chirps.

That’s all the names I know so far. Her others are secrets to me.

What names do you use to refer to your cat(s) at different times?

I call my cats either their name or "kitty" and that's about it. Sometimes when they do something stupid then I call them "damn cat".

None, a bit too allergic of cats to keep one as a pet... though from what I have overheard from my sister's when they call their cats prefixing the name with "Miss" is about the only consistant alternative to their name.

When I was a kid, we gave our cats two names: Favor Dan and Tiger Ann. We named them their second names after the animals in Where the Red Fern Grows.

I never heard of referring to cats by different names at different times, though. But I would call Favor Dan by different names, such as "Fav" or "Dan" or "Danny" or "Danny Boy." Tiger? We just called her annoying!

My cat's name is Lucy. Short for Lucifer. At the vet's office her middle name is fur. So she is Lucy Fur. We also refer to her as Lulubelle or just Lulu. She also responds to Licky-butt.

The cats I had when I were younger were both named Kitty (had them at different times).

My in-laws cat is named Duke -- which he never responds to. Actually he pretty much doesn't respond to anything. I think he intentionally ignores people though, cause I see his ears perk up when he's called, but won't turn his head and look at you or anything. But they call him Duke, Dookie, Dookie-cat, etc.

Since the edit function is down I will put this here.

A derivative of Terr’s beta name Pikachu:

Speakachu- because she strings sentences sometimes in chirps and meows and purrs. (I’m not making this up.)

We always had a ton of names for my cat Milo. My husband even started calling him "Sanjay Gupta"-- I'm not sure why, but it is such a great name.

Just 1. Panther. Real original as she's all black and about 20 pounds.

Don't call her that much though. She came with that name from the animal rescue place I got her from in the Twin Cities.

Any leads on finding her?

Thanks, Phil. She snuck out the door when I left for work yesterday morning. She's done that a couple of times before, but she always came back within a few hours when she was hungry. We've called the local SPCA and animal hospitals, we've put up posters and we've searched everywhere we can think of. I hope she just decided to go on an extended trip and will make her way home, or that someone took her in because she looked like she needed some care. The alternative is too terible to imagine. She's not wearing her collar because she managed to break it off last week and we didn't get around to getting a new one yet.

Wow I really hope she shows up.
Our cat Jack is similar in that he is an expert at sneaking out. He has it timed perfectly when me or my wife is headed for the door. There have been a few times I did not even realize he had bolted. Once I was in the basement doing laundry when I happened to glance up and saw him through the window trotting up the driveway. I had no idea he had gotten out.

Best of luck to you in getting kitty back.

We've got tons of names for our two kitties. They respond to all of them as well as a bunch of commands (but all in Swedish, since that's where they and my wife are from). They know stuff like "come", "jump", "food", "goodies", "leave it", "quiet", "lay down", "go away", "no", and compliments. I'm probably forgetting a couple as well, they're smart kitties.

T.S. Eliot - The Naming Of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.

My partner inherited "Hillary". Here she is as a young vixen.

From that name has evolved:

Hill
Hilly
Hill-Jack
Hussy
Evil Kitty (as seen below)

Cat's rock.
