Co-worker's bad breath is KILLING ME!!!

I have a consultant working for me, he has awful rotting teeth/sulphurous dragon breath every friggen day. If you're in a small meeting room with him, it slowly fills up with sickening gum desease/coffee/dyspepsia stank. You can eventually smell him across the room.

It's probably because he's working his ass off, he and his team work loooong hours. He's also a really nice, professional guy so I want to be careful about how I break my revulsion to him.

How do I deal with this?

Dear Hiro11,

The next time said coworker opens his mouth, vomit into it. This will send him a polite, yet forceful message that something is amiss.

Sincerely yours,

Miss Manners

Just give him some tic-tacs. It will keep him from sneaking up on you too.

Yikes!
I would just get him alone and tell him what's up in a tactful and constructive way. Refer him to your dentist. Suggest a mouthwash and/or breath pills based on parsley oil. Do something, though, we don't want you do die!
Good luck.

There used to be a site where you could send an email to someone about their bad hygene and it would be totally polite and anonymous.

You could also try leaving some breath mints on his desk, just make sure no one sees you.

Leave him a pack of breathmints on his desk with a note saying: "You have been visited by the dragonbreath fairy, consider this a polite warning. Next time you won't be the only one breathing fire! Have a nice day"!

On kind of related note, we had a couple of women (older of course) here who feel the best way to smell good is to put MASSIVE amounts of perfume on.

Luckily I don't have to work with them, but you could smell where they've been in the building. It gave me a headache everytime I come in contact with that stench. And it's the old women's perfume, which even in small quantities, is not that fun to smell.

Now, the young womens perfumes can usually be better and they usually don't put too much on, because they shower daily. Plus they are a lot easier on the eyes. Unfortunately, we don't have any young women working here at WDI, since you usually have to have years of experience in order to be hired by us. I guess we don't want 18 year olds designing and building one of our new theme park rides.

Excellent idea.

I generally have Altoids with me, but he never takes one. I guess you can't detect your own funk.

I just met with him for an hour. I think he needs floss, stat.

I have asthma so whenever I'm around people with a lot of perfume, I start to cough and wheeze and then I'll whip out a few of my inhalers and go to town. That usually gives them the hint. I've actually had to tell people to back away from me because their perfume was so strong it was going to send me to the ER.

It took me a while but I finally found it. I was called "Just a Tip" but it's not there anymore. I don't know if they've moved or just went under but damn they were a cool site. You could choose from several things like bad breath to a bad hair cut; it was great.

Since he works for you, tell him to do something about his breath or be fired.

Give me his address, I'll e-mail him for you. You decide what you want the message to say & I'll send it. I have an address that I use for spam & stuff. It's:

cloaking2k AT hotmail DOT com Just put bad breath guy in the subject line. I'll BCC you on it.

He may have some sort of long term infection going on, too. A trip to the dentist, and maybe to an ear, nose and throat man, is in order.

Every christmas we'd do the gift exchange...whoever got his name always gave him toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, gum and mints... he never took the hint ...it was funny when health and welfare busted his on post living quarters though... It might be an IT thing, but I really get tired of smelling the curry/whatever-spice-that-is stench permeating the area around the breakroom when certain folks warm up the leftovers they brought in for lunch.

Well, I've never heard of that one, but he could always use this: http://www.inspot.org/tell-them/

And as the message write: "Oh, by the way: You also have bad breath."
