Gas Price Check: "Gasoline Prices Fall Below $2.50" (CNN)

Gas prices move below $2.50
Regular unleaded price has fallen over 18 percent since Labor Day record high, AAA reports.
October 31, 2005: 7:06 AM EST

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Regular unleaded gasoline prices fell nearly two cents Monday, dipping below the $2.50 mark, according to travel group AAA's daily survey.

The nationwide average price for regular unleaded fell to $2.492 a gallon from $2.509 Sunday, according to AAA. The price is down over 18 percent from the record high of $3.057 that it hit on Labor Day, following Hurricane Katrina.

Gasoline is down from $2.887 a month ago, but up from $2.031 a year ago, AAA says, a 23-percent year-over-year increase.

Retail diesel, which had not experienced the same declines as gasoline recently, fell 1.9 cents to $3.091 a gallon from $3.11 Sunday. Diesel prices are down 4.5 percent from the record $3.239 set last Monday, but up almost 38 percent from $2.247 a year ago.

Gasoline prices have steadily fallen during the past two weeks on signs that the soaring expense of energy is finally starting to curb consumption within the U.S., the world's biggest user of fuel. In its weekly inventory report, the U.S. government reported Wednesday that demand for gasoline was 2 percent lower last week despite the recent decline in pump prices.
$2.32 a gallon for 87 grade here in SA at my corner Valero Station.

I read the recent drop in prices is the biggest over the given time period in 50 years.

We're $2.48 this morning.

It's pretty funny to see people get excited about $2.50 gas prices. Not long ago, that would unthinkable.

I'll start getting excited when they pull out the "$1.xx" signs again.

Which pretty much means I won't.

$2.33 last night at BP. I was flabbergasted. Can't wait until they drop below $2 so the days of $30+ fillups are over.

$2.72-$2.75 here, but some of that may be post-hurricane price rises.

The cheapest around (and what I paid yesterday) was $2.47 at Costco.

I'm not all that happy about this because based on what I've seen over the last few years, a drop means a huge JUMP is just around the corner....

$2.74 Regular. As usual, Oregon is getting fucked and no one is investigating this.

As for the rest of the country, the prices are not surprising, considering summer is over, and less people are driving around for whimsical interests.

I think I'd faint if I saw gas below $2.00 again.

In my neighborhood, the cheapest I've seen is $2.26

Still.. A ton better then $3.26

back when we were well over 3.. mr forbes had a pretty long write about the increase, and he expected it to settle back down.. i dont remember his exact price projection per barrell.. but it translated to about 1.50 per gallon

we jumped up to 3 before.. and then went all the way back down to 1.

hell.. if you take inflation in, we were well up over 3 back in the 80s.. yet we ended up going back below a dollar..

its not like these trends are completey abnormal.. we just had alot going on lately to make them more harsh.
