Snip, snip?

I was at a Halloween party last weekend. A lot of people there have young children (myself included), so there was a lot of "kid talk". One of the couples there has three children, and he (quite excitedly) started talking about his upcoming vasectomy. (Yeah, it was a real rockin' party...)

Now this guy is my age (32), but my wife and I only have one child (and only 6 months old), so a vasectomy is not exactly on my radar screen. Anyway, I let out a little grimace and said something like "Yikes, not me man...". Immediately, my wife and a couple others there looked at me like I just said that I like to shoot people's dogs or something.

At this point, I'm at a loss for words. I don't know if I'll decide at some point that it's the right thing for me to do, but right then the idea of someone coming at me with scissors anywhere close to that general area isn't real appealing.

Outside of the fact that I have lame friends who talk about strange things at parties, am I crazy for not exactly looking forward to a vasectomy?

Is there any purpose other than more permanent birth control?

I may consider it when I'm older, but obviously not at 28. I don't care what the kids call cool these days.

That guy won't feel the same about it when his balls shrink into little hard nuts.

What fun is that?

No kids at this time and Groucho's point of voluntary surgery sums up my present feeling.

V's can be reversible AND they don't always take completely.....so make sure to get tested a few times BEFORE you stick it in your wife....unless ya want another bundle of (really expensive) joy.

I on the other hand am a big fan of voluntary surgery and pay testament to that every time I go to a strip club.

My wife wants to have a second child. I do not really want one, but I suspect that matters little in what will develop. I will certainly look into a vasectomy after the second child is (inevitably) born.

That only works if she douches with the Coke.

I wish mine would get one but our stupid insurance company won't cover it. I told him he could probably get it done at the vet but he wasn't cool with that.

Vascectomies are less invasive and less painful than tubal ligations. I know a few people who've had "The big V" and all of them were porking their wives/girlfriends/whatevers the night after surgery.

I, on the other hand, had a tubal ligation, and I couldn't move for a week.

I know how to do a neuter, but I doubt you want to give up sex.

I know that the big V can be reversed, but I wouldn't want to take that chance. Who we are as people and what we want can change so much from year to year. I think it'd be a bit premature to say, oh yeah, I never want my boys to swim again! Some might feel that way, but who knows what you may want in the future? Then again, if it's easily reversible, then that's a decent solution to the problem. What are the risks of the procedure?

I just know for myself that nobody is ever gonna cut open my nutsack and live...

Had the deed done several years ago (I'm 41). I have told the story several times around here so won't go into it again. But really it is not as bad as getting a cavity. The worse part was the local! And I didn't listen the doc or nurses and didn't lay down at home with ice and got some bleeding. But nothing major and soon as I got the ice on it no problems..best part? GREAT DRUGS!

I haven't had a vasectomy, but am considering it. My wife and I have three wonderful children and are not planning on having any more, and there's really no reason she should have to continue to take medication (birth control) when I could be proactive in this regard.
