Photochop help needed. How do I keep a pasted item selected?

I know I have done it in the past, but don't know how I did it. How do I selct an item from one image and paste it into another, but keep it selected so I can move it around in the new image?

Ok, I did that, but I can't then move it around the new image like I'd like to.

If you want to re-select it, hold control/command and click the layer.

On a related note....does anyone have a good online reference and/or tutorial guide for GIMP 2.2? I know my way around with the basic, but i'd like to be able to look up specific tasks.

If you want to do more than just move it, like resize, rotate, and more then select the item and go to Edit->Free Transform, or one of the Transform sub-menus for single aspect transformation and additional transform types.
