Our new neighbor asked us to switch parking spaces. What would you do?

We've had our parking space for a LONG time, and today as we were unloading our car (from shopping), our new neighbor came out his place and said...

"I've got a favor to ask, and you're probably going to say no, but would you switch your parking space with mine?", and I said, "Why and what's the problem?", and he said, "Well, it would stop people from walking by my bedroom window", and I said, "But your still going to have Courtney and her friends (a young girl who lives above them) walking by your bedroom window at all hours of the day & night even if we switch, and he said, "Yeah, well, we'd have two less people walking by" (meaning "us").

So I said, "I don't think so. We've been parking there for over twenty years, and we like it."

You see, our space is right at the foot of our stairs, and we can easily load and unload stuff, and keep an eye on our car from our kitchen window or porch.

Anyway, he asked me to think about it, and so that's what I'm doing.

Let's see...Should I?

Disadvantages of switching parking spaces:

Having to back out of the driveway, instead of driving straight out.

The distance from our place to his parking space is about 150 feet.

Unloading inconvenience - We shop a lot, and carrying stuff from our car would be harder as we would be parking further away from our place.

The tree where he parks sprays sap all over his car.

When it rains, we'd get wetter going to and from our car.

Advantages: ...ummm...

So, what do I get out of the deal?: I can't see much of anything.

What does he get out of the deal? Pretty much all the conveniences I lose.

What do you think?

THEEK!

You already told him no, so don't even worry about it. If he asks again, tell him that you thought about it and you don't want to switch.

Don't do it. Well, I shouldn't be so mean. Do it, but name a price. $500 a month.

P.S. You and Treesa do a polka dance by his window this weekend.

Dr. Poli: That's funny.

Naw, but we'll be quieter coming & going.

(Maybe that's it! He wants to do his goings and comings louder! )

TMI!!! TMI!!! TMI!!!

Oh, fuck him.

You don't get any advantages with trading. Plus his reasoning is asshole-ish. He has someone who brings people in at all hours of the night and his biggest concern is you two walking by?

You have no reason to be nice to him, so don't. Save it for people who deserve it.

I think youve answered your own question. Im sure you didnt have that good of a spot 20 years ago....those things take time. You put in the time......to the victor goes the spoils.

Torch his car. He won't have to worry about parking at all after that.

Buy some good cheap lingerie, ask him to give it to his wife for you because she "dresses too conservatively".

Tell him you'll still have to walk by the window to keep switching the tapes in the camera.

Are the spaces assigned or is it a "courtesy" to abide by?

I'd say negative on switching based on what you have posted. He really has no valid reason for the switch.

Tell him that you thought about it and you could not find any reason that it would be of any benefit to you or change his situation. As for the people walking by his window.. remind him that blinds or curtains would solve that problem (he would not see them). Unless the parking space is up against the window, it would not deter anyone from walking by his window anyway.

Tell him you have an open marriage, and he is free to live with you. Then, he can park in your space. Sex has its advantages.

Eh, he doesn't sound like an asshole to me. He asked you and even by your description it sounds like he knew it would be a long shot. It was fine for him to ask, just as it was fine for you to say no (from the description, I probably would have too). Now if he keeps pestering you about it, then he'll be an asshole.

What are you doing, Bus? Bumping old parking-related threads in an attempt to get as many on the front page as you can?
