Well I think Kayne is a worthless piece of shit. Its the blacks that are looting, raping, murdering etc etc etc. kind of funny how they pull the race card out when they are the racist and prejudice group down there. Hell we shouldnt bother helping as long as they keep acting like fucking animals

I don't like Bush. But even I think the blame needs top be pointed at the mayor and governor. Why the hell didn't the governor call in the national guard on day freakin' 1?

To be fair to Blanco, there were 4000 Guardsman deployed in-state in preparation for the storm, and they were on-site just about as fast as you could have expected them. They were, however, improperly deployed and utilized early on.

"New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson offered Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco help from his state's National Guard on Sunday, the day before Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana. Blanco accepted, but paperwork needed to get the troops en route didn't come from Washington until late Thursday."
Everyone dropped the ball here, I think, in one way or another. For now, let's just worry about the dead and the sick.
As for Kayne...while I think he's wrong, this is what happens when we as a nation don't sit down and honestly look at the role race and racism still plays in society today. If not now, when?

When you see city blocks populated by only black people who are crying into the camera, you can't help but think that race is an issue.

I mean seriously people...look at what is going on. White, black, green, red I have no doubt we'd be having problems no matter where this took place. People talk as if what's going on is a normal occurance. Let's have a little perspective about what's going on here. Mistakes have been made but it seems like people seem to forget the enormous level of disaster that's going on here. I just don't know when evacuating, housing and feeding 100,000 people from a horrid and inpenetrable disaster zone became an overnight, easy thing to do.
Then as evidence, people use the wording in a couple of FRENCH news papers as evidence of our US leader's racism??? I just don't get it.
Kanye made some severly boneheaded statements and that's all there really is to it. The only thing I can do is laugh at how stupid it was. It boggles my mind that people can really think this way it defies logic. Does racism exist? Surely it does. Is our President intentionally dragging his feet because he doesn't like them black people? Give me a freakin break.

Kanye's comments are hilariously stupid. He can barely string three consecutive words together. The most offensive part, however, was when he said that when blacks are involved aid comes "as slowly as possible," effectively undercutting the Red Cross plea. He then backpeddled and said that Red Cross was hard at work but it's clear he has no idea what Red Cross does or who they are.
And all these comparisons to 9/11 and how fast services responded are ludicrous. The damage there was limited to a few blocks and the streets were clear. Plus FDNY don't walk off the job like NOFD, apparently.
However, I feel that there is DEFINITELY a class issue at play here. The lack of understanding of how immobil a poor city really is is staggering. I've spoken to people here with money who say "I would have just evacuated." I ask them what if they didn't have their car and money and if instead of living in Manhattan, right near the tunnels, they lived somewhere way out in Queens with lots of distance between them and escape. They are literally stunned: They hadn't even thought of it.
But the lack of planning and coordination is the biggest problem here, and that's a doozy. Of course, it's tied to class as well, with such a poor city no one really cares to make and fund good plans.

I don't think anyone here has said it was easy; what's frustrating and ridiculous is that New Orleans isn't in some third world country. Food and supplies exist a mere state away and could have been dropped off days earlier.
