What's the going price for Lasik?

My school appears to offer it for $1700 per eye. I know to be aware of sketchy bargain Lasik places that advertise for ~$700 or so, but do the prices for reputable Lasik centers vary by state?
My health insurance is covering nada, so I'd find it worth it to travel elsewhere for a weekend to get the procedure done.

My son had it done last year , we traveled to NYC , both eyes where done for 2800. It's amazing , his vision was 20/70 , now he sees 20/15. I want to get my done but with astigmitism , it would cost me 6000.I only need glasses for computer screens , so i'll deal with it.Just watch afterwards , my son really suffered the first night after the surgery , the next day he was fine . He needed to put eye drops in about 6 times a day for 1 month afterwards.

if it's too much why not get one eye done and then get the other one done later?

3200 total - included customvue (wavescan). See 20/15 now but have the typical starburst effect at night.

Halo. Like ring around lights or a fuzzy ring around bright objects. I get that with contacts. You get used to it.

I think I got the eye infection thanks to contacts in the first place. That, coupled with the fact that I need new glasses got me thinking of doing away with the trouble of it all for good.

It's really more of a halo than startburst for me. The effect only occurs at night. I was warned ahead of time this would probably occur since my pupils were off the chart in terms of size. Bigger pupils = more problems.

It looks something like the second picture here, sometimes the third one if the light is fairly dark itself:

My right eye has some ghosting too, like the second picture:

they probably paid the machines off so it's a lot cheaper to do them. i bet brand new machines are a lot cheaper now as well.

NYC i think they are down to less than $300 an eye

This is one procedure where I wouldn't go with the cheapest deal!

Definitely don't cheap out on it. My mom got it done by one of the original docs (or something like that), and couldn't say enough good things about the experience. She was 20/600+.

I got surgery done by LasikPlus, down in OldTown. I believe they are also in MD and near Tysons. It was around $2800 I think... My eyes were 20/750, but now are around 20/30 or so (they say 20/20, but I don't think my eyes are that good). Several of my co-workers have gone there too, so I do recommend them. I think I even have a $100 coupon that comes in the mail occasionally...

I highly recommend this place for anyone in the New York area :

http://www.sunyopt.edu/uoc/services/...eye_institute/

This is where I got it done. $4500 for both eyes.
