Ok where I work, every phone can use the system PA to 'page' people. I never use it if I can help it but the older executives/managers/receptionist always use it.

Several times a week we get a 'mispage' where someone tries to page someone or answer the phone and the whole office hears the person sound like a moron trying to answer the phone. Sometimes a frustrated "fucking thing" resounds in the office or the angry manager thinks he hung up the phone and goes off ranting for the whole office to hear.

I laugh heartily every time it happens. It never gets old for me.

Is my sense of humor stunted for always laughing at such lowbrow stuff?

My brow is so low, most people think I'm wearing a moustache.

The other day there was a temp at the reception desk. After a while the PA system comes on but we hear nothing but the typing of a keyboard... and faint background conversation. After a few mins of this you could hear her phone ring. We can only hear her side of the convo but you can tell people are trying to tell her what's up but she has no clue. It was like that for about 10 minutes.

I was cracking up the whole time . Alas, it was an isolated incident.

now I feel better. This kind of thing happens 5 times in one day sometimes. I laugh out loud but some of my coworkers just sigh. Freakin eliteists.

Having worked in a similar environment, I never stopped enjoying those little audio breaks in the day either

Man, I wish I had something like that happen at my work to get me through the day. Normally it's just me wanting to kill a user for being a user.. If this happened at the very least I would just want to injure them badly instead of wanting to kill them.

Some fun we've had with the PA over the years:

- Go to unsuspecting victim's desk. Dial into the PA; put the phone on hold. Tell victim they've received a phone call. They take the call off of hold, and shout, "Hello? HELLLLLOOO???!??" for a while.

- You mentioned temps at the switchboard. Call through an outside like and have them page off-color names, celebrities, etc. We got this one to the point where temps were trained to check the phone list before paging. Fortunatley, we've got an employee by the name of "Phuc Nguyen", so we can still have fun.

Years ago when I worked retail, you had to dial something like Line[button] 99 to get the intercom. To pick up a line you would hit Line[button] 41-49. We would always tell the new people they had a call on line 99, oh great fun.

When people keep on making the same stupid mistakes over and over again, especially if they are funny mistakes to begin with, it's always comedy gold.

That's the kind of thing I'll laugh at when I'm at work and no one else will pay attention to.

Other people's pain/mistakes is funny at its finest.

I think.

In high school I worked at K-Mart and we'd sometimes dial the number that put the voice over the speaker and hand them the phone saying it was a call for them.

After about five hellos? they'd figure it out.
