Time to start trapping critters again.

Two nights ago, I heard an animal eating out of the dogs self feader. It was a skunk, so I left him alone....but I plotted. Last night I set out 4 traps. This morning I caught one in the enclosed traps. There are two types of traps.....one is a metal mesh where you can see what you caught, and you generally want coons to go in there. The other is a solid box, and you want skunks to go in there so that they don't spray. The problem with the skunk trap, is the only way to really know what you have caught is to open the door, and that can be dangerous. Did you get a skunk? A cat? A coon?

So, you shake the trap and see if it meows. If it doesn't, you take it out, lift the trap, and see what comes out.

Me? I shake the trap and yell, "HAVE YOU EVER DANCED WITH THE DEVIL IN THE PALE MOONLIGHT????" and if I get no response, I take it for relocation.

I caught one, and he was relocated. Today we draw a line in the sand. I will trap every night until no trap gets a critter. I will go for pics tomorrow.

It's a shame you can't get horses to randomly enter your property...

My next door neighbor just throws a blanket over the wire trap. He says that if the skunks don't see you, they won't spray. He takes the skunk out to the west mesa, lets it out of the trap, and shoots it.

We've had problems here in the last few years because what used to be skunk habitat is now tract housing construction. The ones who went east wound up in our neighborhood. The problem seems to have solved itself, because we didn't get any skunks this summer.

Since I doubt that they would respond to "HAVE YOU EVER DANCED WITH THE DEVIL IN THE PALE MOONLIGHT????", they'd just end up being relocated anyway.

But, what do you use for bait if you want to trap and relocate the local teenagers?

iPods and laptops are expensive bait.

I use a blue tarp, and so long as I move slow, I am generally okay.

Seriously, why can't you just have a normal day where you wake up, have some coffee & breakfast, go to work, eat lunch, work some more, come home, watch TV, get on the computer, and then go to bed?

Please excuse this stupid city girl here but why do you have to make the wild animals go away? I mean, isn't there enough room for everyone? Why the hate?

If it were hate, I'd just kill them. They annoy me. They don't pay rent.

And they carry disease, kill cats, chickens....and have the nerve not to kill horses.
