New tires - yea or nay?

I suppose I need some new tires on my car.

What do you say, yea or nay?

Did the cops have to use the spike strips on your tires when they arrested you?

They're bald on the outside thirds. And one has a big screw stuck in it. But the air pressure is holding.

Hard to know without knowing the condition of the existing ones. If you changed them last week, then I'd say nay. If they're ten years old, then yea.

I'm guessing somewhere in between, so it's gonna have to be the twikoff option :)

Seeker 06-24-05 10:55 PM

I don't plan to look in this thread again.

So there.

OK. Given that (it was posted as I was composing my last message), I'd say replace them.

Think about it this way - tyres are probably THE most important controllable variable between you being alive or dead if you have an accident. Which is more cost-efficient? New tyres now, or a potential new X? :D

You can't control the weather.
You can't control the condition of the road.
You can't control what the arsehat in front of you does when he brakes and suddenly goes out of control.
And - You can't even really improve on your reaction time in a breaking situation. You might have good reactions - they might be better than 90% of the population, but you can't really improve on them much.

Your tyres are about the only thing that you can actively increase your chance of survival if ever you need to brake suddenly. :)

Hasn't a mod warned you by now? -ohbfrank-

I would buy some X-rated tires.

i know they have w and y, but do they even have x-rated tires?

Dead 06-25-05 03:28 PM

I need new tires, so it stands to reason that you must need new tires too! ;)

Trigger 06-25-05 03:40 PM

as long as they hold air - keep em... it's wasteful to throw away perfectly good tires like that.

D.Pham4GLTE (>60GB) 06-25-05 09:28 PM

take a penny and put it with lincoln's head in the tread. if you can see the top of his head, then the tires need to be replaced immediately.

I think they do.

bfrank 06-25-05 10:03 PM

I am up for them too but it seems that you need them now and then next month I will post another thread about mine ;)

Bacon 06-25-05 11:25 PM

I guess theories don's apply to tires

mookiemeister 06-26-05 10:47 AM

Better to get new tires before they give out on you on the road.

1998Nole 06-26-05 11:32 AM

Are they worse than this?

The model of tire I have been using isn't made anymore and has been replaced with another similar one but I've been holding off because I couldn't find any reviews of this new model. Finally some reviews have shown up and people seem to like them.

Surprisingly, the new model is about $75 per tire cheaper too. The major feature difference being the old model was Z-rated and the new one is only W-rated. I don't get much of a chance to do sustained 150+ MPH so that probably doesn't matter.

So far they feel really good! I can't wait to try them out on wet pavement.
