Have you ever been in a play?

I had a hard time deciding to be an actor or an engineer in college.

Well - not really hard - I couldn't sing or dance, so engineer yelled out pretty quickly.

But I was in 'Florida Players' in college - and was in a few plays.

How about you?

Most of my roles were minor, because they always seemed to do musicals all the time - but my biggest 'role' was in "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown".

I tried out for Snoopy, but they told me I couldn't sing worth a lick.... I was despondent but then they asked if I wanted the Charlie Brown role.

What? He sings the MOST! Yeah, but Charlie Brown can't do anything right.

Yes, I took a whole quarter of voice lessons anyway.

And yes, I had some sour notes during the plays.

But that was my star role in college.

I'm reminded of this because I'm listening to Gary Burghoff and company on the "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" cd and find myself singing along.

How about you?

I was in a few productions while in college. It's an extremely rewarding experience, and you'll remember it for years to come.

3rd grade - played Mike TeeVee's dad in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"

4th grade - played Schroeder in "But We Love You, Charlie Brown" (which i'm still bitter about because I wanted the part of Linus. some blonde haired kid got the part and I, the black haird kid, got Schroeder )

I played the lead in "Faust" and a supporting cast member in "The Cherry Orchid." Those were fun times and I enjoyed being on stage. The politics however brought me down.

Done several things in the past - both leads and supporting, although I haven't done anything in the last 10 years.

I did a lot of one-acts in high school that I don't remember the names of, but here are the full plays and musicals:

'Rough Crossing" -Turai (Lead)
'The Courtship of Anna- Anna's Negative Persona (Lead)
'Last of the Red Hot Lovers'- Elaine (Lead Female)
Shakespeare's "The Tempest" - Prospero (Lead)
"The Music Man" - Alma and Chorus
"Bye Bye Birdie" - Chorus
'Sweet Charity' - Dance Hall Hostess, Receptionist, Homeless begger #1, and chorus.

I'm not so good at musicals since I can't sing all "pretty" like most of them require, but I can sing in character. (Example... just to get more than one use out of the voice-straining work I put into it.) I'm better at speaking and real acting roles than I am at singing and dancing roles.

I'm looking into doing modeling soon once my back heals, and am also working on a script with Supr. (think: swords, sais, me, killing people, etc.)

I did drama back in high school, and acted in just about every production that we did. My three most memorable performances: I played Jud Fry in Oklahoma (with a booming version of Lonely Room... I was Zach (the director/choreographer) in Chorus Line... and I was Wilbur the Pig in Charlotte's Web, right down to the pink pigs suit and the rubber snout.

Was in the school theatre troupe while in college.

Played bits and leads including:

Townsperson in "Inherit the Wind"
Gladhands in "West Side Story"
Steve (2-line hippie) in "Hair" (though I did get some nice singing moments)
McMurphy in "Cuckoo's Nest"
One of four-part chorus in "Marat/Sade" (bigger and better role than it sounds)

Also directed and acted in a number of one-acts.

Best part is that my face was painted on a full wall in the arts building for a season (as advertisement for the "Season of Madness") and I was even able to do commericals for the school TV station (which aired on the local cable service), drooling and everything. Looked like Manson when doing "Hair" so they took advantage of it. After shaving and cutting my hair after the show, for a year people on campus would stop me and ask if they knew me from somewhere. It was quite entertaining.

Plus in high school, played Daddy in "The Sandbox" and Col. Gilweather in "Something's Afoot."

But looking back, it all pales to my performance as Squanto in the 1st grade thanksgiving play and my 2nd grade lead role in the classroom production of "The Peddler's Soup." I'm amazed Hollywood didn't come calling by the time the soup was done.

Just high school plays. I played the male lead in Neil Simon's "Come Blow Your Horn" and I played Oscar Madison in "The Odd Couple" (our theater director really liked Neil Simon). I also played Uncle Max in "The Sound of Music."

Barnaby Tucker ("Holy Cabooses!!") in "Hello Dolly!"
Benny Southstreet (Nathan Detroit's right hand man) in "Guys N' Dolls"
Sky Masterson (male lead) in "Guys N' Dolls"
Curly McLain (male lead) in "Oklahoma!"
Roy (Oscar's accountant/angry poker buddy) in "The Odd Couple"

My highlights include killing Judd Frey in "Oklahoma!", and singing Luck Be A Lady in "Guys N' Dolls". Lotta fun.

Stage acting gives a rush that's tough to duplicate. Getting a standing O isn't better than sex, but the high does last longer.

+ I would've gotten to scream at Bando's Oscar.

I was in a lot during middle school, playing the lead, or larger parts in a lot of them

"The Worst High School Play Ever," "Happy Daze," "Alice in Wonderland," "Snow White," "The Best Christmas Paegent," and "The Clumsy Custard Horror Show"

Once I got to high school though, politics crept in, and I ended up only getting cast in minor parts where the director basically created them for me as a way of saying "You're neat, but we don't want you in a big role"

So I played Secutor in "Androcles and the Lion" the "Table Monster" in "The Tempest" and "G-man #2" in "You Can't Take It With You"

Now I'm in college, and politics are in full force. If you're not a drama grad student, you're not getting into a play. They'll hold auditions, but it's basically cast beforehand

Bunch of stuff in high school, mostly musicals, and a number of regional theater musical productions around here in the last few years.

Post-high school roles include:

"Woof" in "Hair" - and yes, we did the nudity
"Cain/Jepath" in "Children of Eden"
"Charlie Brown" in "Snoopy!!!" - the sequel to "You're a Good Man..."
"Roger" in "A New Brain"
"Mr. Eshton" in "Jane Eyre"
"Man #1" in "Songs for a New World"

And I've vocally directed "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Company."

I'm auditioning for "Tommy" and a few other shows shortly and I've just started taking voice lessons for the first time.

I'm not a big fan of plays, though I've done a few in my day. I prefer musicals.

I did stage crew for "South Pacific" my freshman year (it will never be too long before I hear a song from that), but I must not have been paying attention at all during my senior year because I had no clue that we did "Guys and Dolls" until I was flipping through my yearbook 2 years later. There's no doubt that I would have been the perfect Sky Masterson since it would only have required me to do my Marlon Brando impersonation, and if I forgot a line, I could have gotten away with mumbling something or the other. Ah well, live and learn I guess.

Me too -- except mine was 5th grade (we didn't use the original Shakespearean text). I think my ass head is still in my dad's basement somewhere.

In 6th grade, we did some play about Prometheus. I was Hermes, messenger of the gods.
