Judges penalty for Embezzlement: Give up Packers tickets or go to jail

Only in Wisconsin

And she's actually thinking about it! What would you do?
Packers fan must decide: tickets or jail
Rosenthal's choice: 90 days or give up season passes
The Associated Press
Updated: 4:50 p.m. ET April 27, 2005

OSHKOSH, Wis. - It's a choice that could give pause to some Green Bay Packers fans.

A judge ordered an Appleton woman convicted of theft to decide whether to spend 90 days in jail or donate her family's Packers tickets next season to charity.

Sharon E. Rosenthal, 59, of Appleton, took more than $3,000 from labor union accounts before she left the organization, according to a criminal complaint. She was sentenced Friday in Winnebago County Circuit Court on one felony count of theft.

Judge Scott Woldt offered her the decision to either serve the jail time or donate her family's four seats in the Packers' three-game season package to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The jail time or the ticket donation will occur as part of Rosenthal's overall two-year period of probation.

I think she should have to donate the tickets and do the time!

I'd do the time, but only because those tickets are like heirlooms.

Do the time. Even though I'm not a big sports fan, they're not solely her tickets to give away.

Is she supposed to give up the tickets for three games, one year, or forever?

it's apparently a type of season tickets they have where they get 4 tickets for 3 games each year. she is being asked to purchase all twelve and then donate them to charity. I don't know what that works out to money-wise, but I'd guess it's sort of a fine option in lieu of jail.

It really depends on when you have to do the jail-time. It would suck if she chose to do the time and was sentenced from Oct.- Dec. The tickets would be kinda pointless then.

If she is a true Packer-fan, she should keep the tickets and do the jail-time in spurts between the games.

If she's looking for a charity to donate to, I'd be willing to start an organization. It would allow her to donate the tickets to poor people in Colorado who don't have the means to buy a plane ticket to Green Bay, get a hotel, and buy tickets to a Packers home game.

It's only one season, so I would donate the tix. Besides, I don't think the Packers are going to be good next season so you won't be missing much.
