Vacataion Help please

So its vacation time. But we aren't sure where to go.

Our choices are anywhere Southwest flies. Cost of hotels as well as location is important. Basically we want to stay close to the action at a good price. If you have been, give recommendations on the following locations with pros/cons. So far this is how we rank our choices. We are a young couple in our 20s, so disneyland and tours of the capitol buildings are nice, but not a priority. We will be staying for 3-4 nights in june in a 3-4 star hotel.

1. Miami - south beach. good hotel prices, nice beaches and clubs. anything else to do?

2. New Orleans - decent hotel prices, good activities, but I have been there before.

3. Chicago - this city interests both of us, and was #1 until we saw hotel prices of the areas we wanted to stay.

4. Seatle - Would be nice, but kinda wanted to get away from the west coast. (No california destinations either, as we live here).

5. Others? South Padre Island? Cleveland ?

Ooh! Come to Portland. I'll rent you my den for a really great price, meals and forced labor included.

hmm.. the reason why i got 2 round trip tickets is all the business trips I took to portland for work last year. I practically lived there for 9 weeks. nice city, but pass this time. vegas would be good, but I have been there about 12 times in the past 2.5 years, and so has she. we will be going there regardless later in the year (possibly to look at houses .

VEGAS!!!!

Seattle doesn't offer enough to make me want to go there for a vacation. It doesn't have much that most big cities don't already have. Unless you like the local sports teams, I don't know why it would be a destination.

Use priceline for hotels, I just got downtown 4 * Chicago Hilton for $80.00 a night and I probably could have gotten it much cheaper.

Chicago hotel prices are actually not horrible during the fall/winter, but once March/April hits, the prices start to steadily climb. If it's a popular period in the city (a large convention, etc), then the prices can climb to astronomical levels - as much as $300-400 for hotels that, during slow times of the year, can sometimes show up for $110-140.

However, priceline and hotwire are definitely able to get one a better price on hotels in the city. For my b-day in March, I got a large room at the **** Westin River North that overlooked (literally, there was a sitting area with very large windows) the river (the sitting area went out a little bit from the building, so it was essentially over the water) and the downtown area. The room was on one of the top floors, as well. I paid $69 via priceline, then called the hotel and did a $40 upgrade to a river view room, which also included continental breakfast. The room rate for that room was otherwise $239 on the Westin website.

Since you are in california, Vegas isn't much of a vacation more so than it is a weekend trip.

I would say Miami

Not only do you have some of the best cuban food and beaches possible, you are a stones throw away from the keys and still about 3-4 hour drive to orlando so you can do the disney parks very easy. The weather is starting to heat up and during the summer time it will be very humid, so you will get a very different taste of summer heat then you do in california.

Of the ones you've mentioned, Chicago and Miami interest me the most. However, I've never been to either. I always thought Chicago looked like a nice city to visit though. Miami is nice because it's close to other Florida destinations as well.

However, I'd probably go to Washington, DC instead. Denver (another SW destination) is also nice, but probably doesn't have enough to do for a long vacation.

I usually purchase hotels through priceline, but get an idea for prices through hotwire and orbitz first. Chicago was coming up around $180 for 3* and $250 for 4* for the weekend we wanted. It looks like we are gonna do miami, so tell me about some can't miss cuban restaurants and a good itinerary to see the keys. rent a car for the day? that kind of good stuff.

Vegas is a common weekend trip for us, and I just turned down a trip there for next weekend

Okay, looks like miami it is. flights are booked, now just what to do.. based on an hour of research the tentative itinerary is:

Arrive thursday night in Sobe. Stay until checkout sunday, than up to Ft. Lauderdale for one night. Returning home on monday. Possible day venture to Key Biscayne or elsewhere while in miami; suggestions?

Some questions,
1. I don't want to rent a car for more than a day in Sobe (for a day venture), is that possible, and is a day trip to Key Biscayne worth it? or somewhere else?

2. whats the best way to get from Sobe to Ft. L beaches? Train? Taxi? Towncar?
