What's the worst thing that can happen from not bathing?

I know a woman who's parent's live way up north and her mother has dementia and apperently she called her parents on saturday and her father admited that he hasn't given the mother a bath in over 6 weeks, she hasn't been taking her medication, and all she's been eating is mashed potatoe's. The woman drove up there yesterday to bath her but said her mother wouldn't let her. so my question is will she start getting some serious rashes that could lead to something more worse.

6 weeks worth of bad body order is the first thing that comes to mind.

But depending on what kind of area that the parents live in, she could also start picking up ticks and stuff.

I dunno what could happen, but I can tell you what should happen. Drag mom out back and hose her off if she won't take a bath.

Pretty sure you'll get some nasty bed sores.

Ticks and bedsores have nothing to do with bathing. In the middle ages, people would typically bathe only once a year so it really can't hurt you. Not too many people would want to be around her though.

This isn't really an answer to your question, but may help. If you are in the US you can see if she qualifies for visits from a home health service. They will come in and bathe them and do blood pressure readings and stuff. If you get a good one they are very good at getting people to cooperate and it probably helps that it is a third party nurse person rather than her child doing it. We had to do this for my grandma.

if you have any kind of abrasion or cut on the skin it could get infected pretty bad.

Unless her undergarments and linens are getting changed extremely often, she probably *is* developing rashes by now.

The worst thing that could happen is knowing that I would not consider having sex with you. Most people cannot live with such knowledge. Obviously, this is a worst case scenario and all other possibilities pale in comparison.

Pretty scary stuff. Usually even the ugliest and smelliest people have that to cling to.

Frequent bathing is a 20th century fashion. Before hot water and heated bathrooms, people rarely bathed.

Contrary to the thread title, in this case the problem isn't "not bathing" it's "not being bathed"--as in someone who needs daily care being neglected for 6 weeks. She could be in bad shape indeed.

If she has dementia, and her husband is unable or unwilling to bathe her, then she needs to be in a nursing home asap.

After 10 years or so the villagers get all upity and throw your ass in the lake.

Don't ask me how I know this.

I know a case where a senior citizen hadn't taken a bath in 8 years. She was afraid of the water and only bought new clothes. Suffice it to say, when she was told she had to bathe, it was a circus of sorts.

She could get a spider in her ear... that's enough to make anyone bathe...

I would be more worried about existing on nothing but mashed potatoes as far as health goes.
